It really is insane how good this is. It’s challenging TSIB for the top spot on my personal rankings. It’s without a doubt better than the rest for me.

I'm not sure this will beat 'Times of Grace' for me as that's a very unique sounding album, more intense than this new one, was my first Neurosis, and basically defined how I see this band.
Second place is up for grabs though.

ToG is a bit of a quirky wildcard pick for numero uno, as you don’t hear people say it often. It feels like I’ve heard people say all of Souls, ASTNS (mine), TSIB, TEOES & I think GttR too as their fave. So we’ve covered most of their discog, especially if we’re adding this to the pile. Crazy band.

Gonna need to spin this a bit more but it feels below TSIB, A Sun That Never Sets, The Eye Of Every Storm, and Given To The Rising. I've never been as high Times Of Grace as others but I can see some preferring that. This has only just come out though so thats after only a few days with it.

I love Times of Grace but this album to me is better by some distance.

I turn 50 on March 27th, and this album is the best gift I could have received. AOTY, if not the best album of the last 20 years.

ToG had to grow on me for some reason. I love it now, because it’s a Neurosis album in their prime. But I still wouldn’t put it in my top 5.

I’m gonna come clean now, as this honestly feels like I’m living in some kind of alternate reality where everyone is hearing a different album, especially the Neurosis vets (I get it more with ppl new to the band cos it does have accessible, almost anthemic moments relative to the slow-burners of yesteryear)
I mean don’t get me wrong this is a really good comeback. It’s certainly different to what went before, so it has a unique position. Turner is obviously here and added some spice and intrigue buuuuut, this kinda feels like a template for something potentially awesome, rather than the finished article to me. It’s probably (okay almost definitely) a personal thing but I actually yearn for a little more focus on a singular sound, more focus on ambience or slow-burning passages. To its credit, this definitely doesn’t drag, but that’s because it’s one idea, after another, after another. I like it when Neurosis are slow, menacing and use quieter dynamics for longer stretches. That previous sound is present here, but it is more fleeting than I’d like. The focus has shifted. That said, I do enjoy this. It’s just not gonna be surpassing the majority of their discog any time soon (unless an unexpected dramatic shift occurs).
Very happy this is getting more people into the band tho. They’re legendary, unique and amongst the most rewarding ever.

^ I'm no Neurosis vet, but this is much smoother listening than anything else I've heard from them. Other thing is that new releases tend to elicit an outpouring of love from fans initially, and only later do fixed, enduring opinions form. This has happened to me with bands I cherish so often, and I've never had a surprise album just dropped on my head. The hype effect must not be discounted.
*not trying to piss on anyone's parade.. love the music you love

DAMN, wasn't expecting this.
"now, in 2026, they've enlisted the help of sludge master Aaron Turner of ISIS fame"
Stopped the review right there, instant album play on Spotify

Times of Grace being the first Albini production, the folk instrumentation in places, very queasy and evil old time'y vibe, you've got the Tribes of Neurot addition disc...I think it's an impressive album but maybe not as 'wall of sound' or consistent in tone as on other work.
'The Last You'll Know' and 'End of Harvest' are uniquely intense I think.
I do need to revisit the whole back catalogue though...

"That awful dudes vocals were always what made this band unlistenable to me so I’m excited to put ears to this"
Steve and Scott sound pretty similar, so I don't get this.

The return of Neurosis is a good reason to write something after many years of lurking on the site.
The news seemed almost unbelievable, and yet here we are. Love that suddenly so many people are discovering the band. I do have to agree with Demon of the Fall, where it almost feels like I'm hearing a totally different album than others. The jumps from idea to idea are too jarring to my liking, something here does not resonate with me for some reason (I got a similar feeling with the latest Cult of Luna album). I will give it more time to sink in, try listening to it in different environments, sometimes context can make a huge difference, especially with Neurosis.
Love Dave's return on vocals, though - would be awesome to have more of him instead of Aaron.

I didn't mind it the first couple of times when we got the sudden transition into a quiet synth part out of nowhere, but this album uses that trick too many times.
