It just isn't huh? It at least relates to it at the minimum.
They mix metalcore and deat metal a lot, making it not EXACTLY death metal but definitely much more death metal than a benchmark metalcore band like Converge.
Seriously, stop being so stubborn and denying every thing I say. Obviously they have a huge death metal influence. I suggest you listen to some death metal so you can hear the similarities.

They have a little bit of death metal in them, but it's not a "huge" influence.

Even a little DM just makes me vomit. Yes they are a progressive metalcore band, but the way they handle their metalcore leans towards towards the death metal rythm a lot of the time if you get what I mean. It's just too intense and anti-fun a lot of the time.
Besides the occasional death metal sections, I don't like their sense of melody when it matters most. Yes, get away from melody sometimes and just have fun with technicality, but some times I'm listening to a song and nothing ever seems to come together or fit together.
The worst parts are when they transition between equally "boring" verses, as if they think they are making it any better. Some times transitioning every minute into a completely different song doesn't make the overall song better, it just confuses the listener. It is important to make a point and not just ramble on, and while they make many good points, their rambling doesn't fit well. I'm not saying they turn into Killswitch engage though (however that would be fucking sweet... with KsE melody+BTBAM creativity and technicality)

You probably shouldn't listen to metal then.

See GodL1ke, it's apparent you're pretty much an arrogant asshole. I know death metal is a sub genre of metal, and both aren't defined by one sound either, but they differ in feeling by quite a margin.
By the way, "The Formative Years" sounds like thrash metal to me, but a little darker. I guess I've heard a lot of the newer death metal.

It's called death METAL for a reason, man.
