Mars, come the year-end lists, you've penned more comments than most about perceived inadequacies in the content that gets popular here and the frustrating sense of deja vu that accompanies certain styles shooting up the charts (and then heel turned on this the moment the albums you loved hit the top spots - can't say i blame you, but let's be real about this).
practically everyone who's stuck around here has a "persona" in some capacity, as does everyone you know in real life - if you believe that this somehow makes people fake or that the way they draw on their persona is somehow at odds with what they earnestly mean, then I'm sorry you haven't made this clearer at an earlier point.
if reading between the lines isn't enough at this stage, there are very few people on this site i earnestly dislike (and none of them have appeared in this thread). however, most people here who occasionally irritate me in a way that ultimately adds to their charm and that of the site (this goes for Ryus and Demon as much as anyone else, much love + respect to both), and a lot of people who i think prop up a lot of shit music (as I'm sure if the case of all of you). i don't think I've left much ambiguity as to who and when these occasions have come to pass, and would consider the atmosphere much the healthier for it, though i very much hope that no-one has been left with the impression that I genuinely resent their presence for it. I'd like to think that a shared awareness of how to get under each other's skin is an important and generally good-natured part of how people i feel closer to on sput and i have come to understand each other

sputnik has always been about tough love and I've definitely grown from people putting me on the spot about my takes. you're an adult and a platformed reviewer - if there's anything i say that makes you insecure about your taste, then maybe draw your own lines and come up with your own rebuttals instead of nurturing a chip on your shoulder in a way that seems, judging from your last comment, to have inspired a deeper level of resentment than anything I'd recognise in myself, while conveniently avoiding engaging with the substance of anything I've written itt (not to mention active distortions, e.g. taking comments specifically about lurkers who upvote core in a fashion I'd call indiscriminate without adding anything to the community to somehow amount to my view of *all core fans*) or sidelining active voices into petty factions instead of engaging with them wholeheartedly (per "Standard take from that crowd, pay no mind." reaction to Demon of all people)
I don't have anything against you and am a little put out that you've developed such an unflattering read on me - fair enough - but these are playground politics and if your notions of jolly discourse are at odds with the petty amiable shitposting that keep the site alive for many of us, then maybe find a way to handle the crit n grit that doesn't involve throwing stones from the confines of your own glasshouse

Personas are a given, but I have never gotten a sense for where yours begins and ends. I guess if I've so wildly misread you then I'll say nothing more about it, but I've never felt like banter from you has been without ill will.

I offered my response, which was that I believed your opening paras were about tropes/innovation/etc. and so on, so when you seemed to be against a trending -core album that many seemed to enjoy based on the success of said tropes/how well they're done, it came across as hypocritical to me.



And perhaps it can be tiring when people swoop in on any given hype just to seemingly dash it out of spite, and Demon's comment felt pretty egregious in that regard and came across as pretty poor taste and elitist. If that's also banter, then sure, maybe I need a guide on when to tell y'all are joking, because it seems like the same energy in threads and in Discord and elsewhere, and the differences can be real difficult to spot and arbitrary at best.
