I don't know. I'm all for having disdain for an album, but I'm definitely under the impression you might be disliking this album for not the best of reasons. Specifically, your constant "tik tok" arguments sound more cringe than the culture that exists on the platform. If the band has cultivated a following from tik tok, how exactly does this make it bad? I don't want to come off as bashing because I did find some merit in your criticism regarding some of the vocal elements you disliked. This whole thing just sort of comes off as "edgelord" because the band is gaining popularity.

I kinda fuck with this but it's not a metal album and most of the metal parts shouldn't be there.

it doesn't and this isn't an argument i make. i mention TikTok exactly once in the review body because that is where the band blew up. i mention that they blew up because i find their popularity and demographic uncomfortable given that their low effort lyrics and subject border on emotional exploitation if you take them in bad faith (which i do because their anonymity scans as a gimmick and everything about their sound scans as poorly manufactured gaff).

I do stand corrected regarding my comment on "constant tik tok arguments," that's my bad. However, I'm just a little confused on the aspect of assuming that they are insincere based on their gimmick. Your finishing blow seemed to target those who might be interested in this concept. To clarify, I don't dick-ride this band, in fact I've been able to avoid them for a while now because of personal disinterest (until this album) so their whole image-narrative is pretty irrelevant for me. Also my intention is to not sway your opinion on this album, as I do believe you have supportive reasoning for your dislike

The lyrics that i remember mainly the "make a good girl bad" was cringey. That being said "Are you really okay" was extremely uncomfortable and one could argue problematic. Thats not to say that the subject shouldnt be covered through lyrics but the way they went about it was haphazard as well as extremely jarring considering that there is a song titled after a fetish (Vore) another about squirting. So to have one song be about a very serious topic in the middle of that bollocks comes across as disingenious. Lyrically "Are you Okay" doesnt glorify its subject but at the same time it doesnt give it the actual weight or care it needs. Also as Johnny points out with the tiktok thing, tiktoks used by a largely young demographic and some of the subject matter of said lyrics is just ick if you think about it being aimed at a young audience.



Thats my view on that song in particular and the lyrical content on this album is just awful anyway. If you connect with this, enjoy it but thats my view.

Sleep Token, Hollywood Undead, they’re interchangeable. Reading the lyrics to Are You Really Okay?, it’s not hard to see how something so surface level lyrically sandwiched between horny fetish pieces makes it seem manipulative and opportunistic. Bare bones, skin deep notebook scribblings about someone who’s obviously suicidal and simply going “wait, are you really okay, bro? You’re bleeding” and erotic “i wanna make you squirt while you eat my leg meat” with an overarching cult theme sounds gross, even at a distance
