Rating it a 1.0 just comes off as either bitter or just ridiculous, that score cannot be taken seriously.
A 2.0 maybe could accept as someone who has actually given it a go and doesn't like it, but 1.0 just reeks of someone who has a gripe, is just not being genuine, disregard that score completely!

what’s with the Lars apologia? dude sounds like he’s struggling to play basic fills and pretty much every beat is exactly the same
also does he use the china cymbal at all on this? his set gets smaller with each album

my point there was mostly lars sounds at least competent on the album due to the magic of protools, while nothing is fixing kirk's lazy playing

"there's only so much you can really do to spice those up as a drummer without kinda ruining the songs" As someone who plays, I disagree. Lars is just kinda stagnant. There are a lot of flourishes somebody can add around the backbeat.

i mean yeah but in the context of this album i don't really think there's much room for nuance on the majority of these songs. would a few more syncopated kicks really add that much to a song like inamorata?
the thrashier stuff i completely understand, but most of this album is basically metal ac/dc and lars is more than fine playing the paul rudd role

you'd have to be either a troll or a total edgelord to give this a 1/5. it is not amazing but this album is factually better than their last 4 LP's. mostly a low bar but 1/5 is reserved for stuff that's historic levels of bad. you really cant tell me this is amongst the worst albums of all time.

^ lol, "factually"? I wouldn't go that far. But I will say, it's been growing on me quite a bit. Probably my least favorite of the band's post-St. Anger albums (sans Lulu), but there's a lot of good stuff here regardless

I get surprised that DM and HW have so many apologists. Maybe it was my BPD but it seemed like the fans hated DM almost as much as St Anger due to the production and bloated songwriting. Ik DM was always held in much higher regard but I always assume it's still generally unliked

DM's a weird one. I see so many people on both sides saying it's either underrated or overrated, and no one can seem to reach a clear consensus on what that album's reception actually IS. So in other words, I guess it's the music equivalent of Final Fantasy XIII.
Personally, I love DM, even with its flaws. I understand that the production isn't great, but even at 74 minutes, the album flies by pretty quickly for me. The songwriting is like a middle ground between the prog-thrash of AJFA and the groove-laden heavy metal of the black album, and I'm a big fan of that approach

i jammed it front to back maybe a week ago in comparison to this one and the albums around it. I think it's fine, but every song just goes on for way too long. I feel like nearly every song is pretty good until after the second chorus, where all the solos and bridges start; mostly unremarkable guitar solos that go on and on and on. A lot of the songs are copy-and-pastes from ADJD, like Day and S&R. But like "That Was Just Your Life" is a song a really want to call a straight banger, but it just goes on way too long.
Why I like this album more than everything after Load is that it just feels like a genuine energized attempt at writing good music, not trying to check boxes or fill fan-expected quotas.

Not a fan of DM at all. Load was good but Reload, St anger and DM were a write off for mine. HW had that Hetfield riffing and swagger and this is HW Part II

I much prefer dm over this.
Btw, that Lars kick drum is so lol-worthy. One of the richest drummers in history, and your kit sounds worse than a local gospel drummers’

Yeah, this has been growing on me a bit. It might unironically be one of the band's heaviest albums too, due to James' guitar tone and the increased emphasis on doomier, sludgier riffs
