I've listened to this so much in the past month, like 20 or more times. Best post-rock album ever.

I humbly disagree but yeah there are a fair amount of overly long meanderings in both Providence and The Dead Flag Blues that make me understand the sentiment.

I just can't even imagine how anyone thinks this is even comparable to LYSF or Slow Riot. Yanqui is really underrated too, imo it even trumps this.

I have Yanqui somewhere but haven't listened to it enough to rate it properly. My problem with LYSF is that I still don't "get" (for lack of better phrasing) the final track. I mean Sleep and Storm are brilliant and Static is cool but Antenna's to Heaven is such a disappointing ending for me idk I like all of Providence so I'm probably a complete hypocrite or something.

no not at all i can understand that. not because i agree, i really don't think there is a weak section of LYSF, but that's a perfectly legit criticism. Yanqui is great because it's just pure, un-augmented godspeed playing music. this album for some reason just doesn't touch me in the same way as any of their other work. i know i'm in the minority here, but this just doesn't feel as magical.

I like this a lot more than LYSF

Antennas To Heaven is a pretty scrambled track, but I've come to like it Mostly because the movement "She Dreamt She Was a Bulldozer, She Dreamt She Was Alone in an Open Field.
I haven't fully listened to this album yet (I've only heard "East Hastings and a small bit of "Providence", but from what I've heard I think I might end up liking it more than LYSF.

fell asleep with this playing, then the ending of East Hastings came on and scared the shit outta me.
the part where the violins goes all fast, kinda like the begining of The Exorcist.
|
| |
no, it sounds like the main theme of The Bourne series
|
| |
I think Yanqui is better than this too. The biggest problem with this album is that it requires too much effort to appreciate and even then it isn't completely satisfying.

"even then it isn't completely satisfying. "
I love you bro, but this album isn't satisfying? The Cowboy? Death Metheny? The Sad Mafioso? dplfshl;sdfhj'sldpfh everything about this album is pure gold.
even the concept, or at least the concept for the vinyl edition. the album is called F# A# ∞. the droning note that starts side A is an f#. the note that starts side B is am a#. now, unlike most standard records that play out and finish (the needle then lifts or does its thing), the end of this record is looped so that, if untouched, it will continue to play the last rotation of the record which is an eerie ominous note. so, ∞. it goes on forever
F# ... A# ... ∞
I don't know I think it's brilliant
