I get liking and enjoying the album, but there's nothing here coming straight off of Blood Mountain. The intro to Peace and Tranquility is actually kind of laughable imo because what is it doing just in the middle of the album like that. One published reviewer equated Pain With An Anchor to being reminiscent of The Wolf Is Loose..

All of its reminding of people losing their shit over All the Heavy Lifting because it has that secondhand prog middle section that's just a honed in and toned down version of Capillarian Crest in every way.

If this is anything, it's the full length of Cold Dark Place that everyone was asking for, and yet, it's the one goddamn thing least mentioned in discussion about the album. Instead just endless comparisons to CtS and BM like it's necessary to continuously extrapolate from. That's just not what I think it is at all. It's weird all this pining that's been going on.

Tbh I enjoyed cold dark place more than this (minus the last track ruined by dreadful lyrics)

It took me a second to find since I've read quite a few of them, but it was Rolling Stone of all places lmao.

"Pain With an Anchor,” reminiscent of Blood Mountain‘s “The Wolf Is Loose,” opens the album with a flurry of fills from Dailor. This track sets the heaviness barometer for the rest of the album. The last minute in particular provides optimal mosh material."

lmao nice
i don't think there's a single song here that can rly hold a candle to the Wolf is Loose, but Pain With An Anchor is a particularly unflattering wrong comparison

Could’ve been worse. There’s probably a zine out there somewhere saying this is as good as Motörhead.

Starting to change my mind. Eyes of Serpents might trump More Than I could Chew as best track here.

So, does anyone know which song closes out disc one? On a pic on the Mastodon store for the CD version it looks like it's Skeleton of Splendor and there's nothing readable below that, but Wikipedia says it's Pushing the Tides. Closing it with Skeleton kind of makes more sense to me and was what I was thinking was the case for the first few times listening to it, but I admit it would make for a pretty short disc one, and a kinda lopsided disc two.

Metallum and RYM list it with Peace and Tranquility starting Disc 2.

Okay, I guess that's just probably it. For reference, here's the pic I was referring to.

Looking at it again, it's weird how Splendor is directly under Sickle and Peace, so it must be printed weird on the disc or in like off number rows. Pushing the Tides is a longer title so I figured a part of it should at least be visible.

Look disc 2, how ''...lands'' and ''Gigantium'' aren't even parallel to each other, and they're definitely not in succsess

This reads like one of our Sputnik brethren made an oopsie and got copypasta'd to oblivion, but no it's just Rolling Stone displaying their incompetence once again. Hilarious stuff.

Lol I felt some bloodmoutain s edginess on peace and tranquility s intro, but now it just speaks Carcass to me. Its a little out of place agreed, but its still pretty cool imo.
