4am is my favorite too, but I understand how someone might feel like it's uh. not good. incorporating dnb into pop stuff. risky move
|
| |
i dunno, on the liquid side of things dnb is often pretty poppy as is, so emulating breaks in pop seems pretty intuitive to me especially with all the other sugary ddr-core ~edm~ shit going on. the almost zouk-bass style rhythms in between those sections are also pretty prevalent in certain niches of pop music right now too. it's just not as popular in america i don't think. i wouldn't say catering to those audiences is risky as much as it is just current.

i think you're right but its more that my language was imprecise: risky relative to sputters maybe? sort of like the super duper Four On The Floor uhn tss uhn tss of "bad guy" by billie eilish, just immediately sort of sets off barometers of "tasteless"ness. my brain is probably warped by what I think people here think

My Name is Dark is the highlight of this whole album. Darkseid was pretty cool from what I remember of it.

as I remember there was some anecdote where raphaelle from blue hawaii and braids was doing a song with grimes and raphaelle has this really loud voice and grimes is grimes so R had to stand back like five feet from the mic because she couldnt even naturally lower her voice to grimes' volume level

LOL
Where can I find this song

idk i just searched the web for this anecdote and only found some website that says they were roommates. guess it half checks out. wonder where I read it
"I was living with Grimes at the time and we didn't exactly stabilise one another."

I can appreciate that though. A lot of pop singers seem to think that the best way to sing is just hit the notes and be as loud as possible while doing so. That's why Ariana is so irritating vocally but I don't mind Grimes or Dua Lipa or people who are a bit more subtle with it

says they were roommates
lol what the fuck? thats surreal to me

Raphaelle told NME: "I'm in a good place now, but the song is about a particularly intense episode I had where I was convinced I was a fallen angel. I was living with Grimes at the time and we didn't exactly stabilise one another. We're both really intense people."
lmao no shit
