I bet

I like the idea of reimagining classic songs in a modern pop atmosphere, so 7 rings is definitely cool.
I also dig the self-affirming lyrics of the T/T, but I think it takes a bit too much inspiration from "Liability" by Lorde lyrically (assuming ariana is familiar)

The tone and message of Liability is so different from thank u next

wait how does the t/t here sound anything like liability wtf
i'm a lorde fanboy please explain
|
| |
I didn’t really explain myself, but to me it’s about the specific wordplay, not the sound. In liability the first verse wraps up with these lines:
“Into the arms of the girl that I love
The only love I haven't screwed up
She's so hard to please
But she's a forest fire
I do my best to meet her demands
Play at romance, we slow dance
In the living room, but all that a stranger would see
Is one girl swaying alone
Stroking her cheek“
While TYN has this in the second verse:
“Cuz I met someone else
We havin' better discussions
I know they say I move on too fast
But this one gon' last
'Cause her name is Ari
And I'm so good with that (So good with that)”
It’s the same idea of introducing this affair with a girl earlier in the verse and in the last few lines revealing that she’s actually talking about herself, I just think Lorde communicates the idea much much more eloquently.

She was way cuter on Victorious

Some good songs on here though

I mean yeah those are similar ideas but the tone, as I said, is so different. I don't think I would call Liability self-affirming so much as it's just lonely and sad

same trick/approach, different subject/story
