"Solitary reign was when it all changed. Thats their 'hit' was noticeable how much the crowds changed. There was goth girls doing pole dancing to it on fking tic toc. I hate it, I hate de evermaans too because it's almost SR 2.0 I don't like those high crescendo chorus' colins vox where always best when they were more fragile and venerable.
Edit I don't hate it of course I just think they're massively overrated in their catalogue. They're ok songs Diaken> SR by a huge distance"
oh come the fuck on can you sound any more edgy lol
anyway i agree diaken is the best this album has to offer, and this album has A LOT to offer

'oh come the fuck on can you sound any more edgy lol'
hahaha whats the fks 'edgy' about it???
They became accessible to more people, with their first cleanly sang cresendoy/hooky chorus thats fine Plenty whove been going to COR shows for years and fans since the beginning werent feeling it, Ive been there from the start and thats a fact and even something theyre totally aware of, they said themselves they felt the change and the 20/30 of us that meet up at Amenra gigs across Europe for the last decade mostly agreed when it came out (and still) Theres no right or wrong about that, it happens its not like they were trying to 'Sell' a hit or anything it came from their heart as always and appealed to many but it was definitely a turning point for them, for thei appeal and the crowds noticeably changed, that song blew them up (underground standards anyway) but loads of the older heads didnt really like. Theyre very good friends of mine and Ive told them that myself but theyre well aware. It turned out to be a big moment for them and even seeing them now theres always loud cheer when those first notes of SR play.
You can only get the film 'Skunk' on selected showing across Belgium for now (maybe Netherlands too) I dont even think it has English subs yet and Colin doesnt know what the plan is for it more widespread

I actually hooked up with them last year for first time in a while at a show and when SR played there was a boy and girl next to me, amenra merch head to toe, crying when that song came on. Ive been in pieces at many a Amenra show and it was almost like a passing of the torch, I was so not arsed about that song but it meant something to them just as 'Am kreuz' or 'Silver needle...' did/does to me. They helped me through many a dark time and I kinda looked at that couple and was like 'This is for them now' Was kinda nice.

i totally get it man. it just gives a certain vibe of entitlement when one goes all "man i just HATE it when the newbie fans only want to hear the latest mainstream shit instead of the old tunes", like who really gives a rat's ass what the others feel, especially when we're talking about a song that has been pretty much universally liked by old and new fans alike. i'm not judging you or the way you feel, i feel the same about a bunch of other bands, it's just the way you worded it that rubbed me the wrong way.
thanks for the info about the film, guess i'll have to wait and see. the soundtrack seemed pretty cool but obviously you need that film context to get the actual experience

All good brother x
yeah I can get that that's why I tried to explain it more. I'll support this band and this group of people until I die, They helped me massively in some dark times and it's fantastic to see them reaching new people all the time.
Colin looks so suited to that role in SKUNK I can't wait to see it myself man.

I absolutely love SR and De Evenmens, probably the songs that made me go from "good band" to "I love this band" and then get into more of it
Previously loved bits like Mass III's Nemelendele + Am Kreuz combo but didn't go all in head into the band
But there's much more to IV and De Doorn than these songs, Plus Pres de Toi, Diaken, Het Glooren, Voor Immer are also amazing shit

and thats exactly what I mean, thers a huge pre and post mass 6 fan difference
Not as people their shows are still great with the best people but in preference, I much prefer the old blugeoning Amenra with the frail vox than the polishished cresendoy SR an DE like , Caro is what makes De Doorn, But theres also people that found them through that so its all good. Different storkes. Im the opposite I love all mAss 3/4/5 where as theres 2 on this I dont like and most of DD is cool bu elevated by Caro
I remember the exact same thing happening with pre and post ITAOT Isis.

My point is I loved mass 3 before but not much else, and through the kick I got from IV&DD (ok also an amazing live show also helped probably) I went back and got into everything in a bigger level
So not really a dichotomy but complementing for me

Lets all stop pretending that Solitary Reign doesn't annihilate your senses when it comes on. This band has a handful of masterpiece songs and its one of them, get over it.
