Lucid - at least four, possibly six, of the songs here are most certainly written and intended to be chart botherers. They're pop, pop, pop...c'mon now

average pop.. albums like these get randomly hailed as some sort of saving moment once in a while.. smart marketing.. didn't expect this site to drink the shit-laced Kool Aid so hard though..

Kate Bush I could hear a bit on the (sadly terrible) ballads but Bjork? No, theres nothing here anything like Bjork and Lorde will never be an artist like Bjork (I'm not a Bjork fanboy btw, I don't rate her but I do respect her).

As indeed I do Lorde who, taken for what she currently actually is, a 'slightly more precocious pop writer than most of her peers', she's fine by me. Making out this is 'Hounds of Love' crossed with 'Homogenic' is just reading waaaaaay too much into this.

chartpop music albums usually have more attention put into production than this does most of the time, tbh

the naysayers would have more success arguing this as a failed art pop project rather than a generic mainstream release. that framing isn't very convincing in the age of halsey and the chainsmokers

I'm not really into pop music (I'm a Swans fan actually)

Exactly, this shit is far more adventurous than the average "generic pop record" and describing it as such is a pretty simplistic and closed-minded way of saying why you don't like it
