Nick sounds like he is sat in the ferryboat with Charon.

Skele is a tourted ride with death recounted from the depths concluding with a climb towards the living..
This is a child's lament.

This and Skeleton Tree are both some of the best records of the decade, and I sincerely wish neither of them existed

Skeleton Tree has an air of cheese about it. This on the other hand feels 100% genuine and is much more human. Sure it's awkward and a bit unpleasant in parts but that only serves to further solidify its message.

Cave is a drama queen, and that works for Skele. This is fumbling and awkward but I think it works.

'Benji' is better than both of course, but that's just complicating the argument even further.

both have their distinct styles so I think it's more about preference really. I found it more admirable that Phil decided to open up very, very bluntly about his experience while Cave hid behind a cloak of poetry and analogies. different ways of coping but results in different styles

at times i feel this is the only essential album of 2017. nothing else is pushing the conversation about what art is/can be like what phil presented here

Well I mean Sun Kil Moon is still pushing the boundaries with each album in a unique way. That stirs up a lot of controversy.

Alain Johannes with the tune Endless Eyes is an example of how to do this stuff with a bit more resonating oomph

Don't think 'oomph' was the intention.

Still holding out for a RtJ mix of this anyway

I live in the same area as this dude, so the part where he talks about the trees opening up and seeing the tower lights and the forest fires that year is crazy. Reminds me that this was going on while I was just passing through. Could have passed the dude on the freeway and not have known what he was dealing with.

Its hard to get through, yeah. After seeing zero positive things about this record since it came out, i finally realized something. Every time i listen to this it reminds me not to take the people i care about for granted. It makes me want to be a better friend, partner, son, etc. It really puts things in perspective.

Yeah this is a very draining listen if that makes sense. Amazing album though.
