"I can't decide whether his delivery is put on and over the top or whether he's just really fucking emotional"

Eh, you're new to Nick Cave aren't you?

i agree. this is the main problem with cave, he's just too damn theatrical. i love his music but it never moves me in ways that the raw sincerity of dylan or hammill does

It'll be a 4.3 at most by the end of the year, 'tis inevitable.

Can't lie, this is getting dangerously close to tying with Blackstar for my AOTY

top 5 this year actually

it's a nice contrast to Blackstar, in which Bowie is singing about his inevitable demise, while Cave is singing about experiencing loss

last three songs were a bit of a snore, but overall solid album. The ambience of 'Jesus Alone' is harrowing. Up there for song of the year for me.

Distant Sky brings the feels too much to be boring. However, if the performance by both Nick and the girl weren't on point, it would have been an uninteresting song.

But it ends up being one of the best songs on the album oops.

It's kind of weird to say "if the vocals weren't so good this song wouldn't be good" when the song is like 90% vocals by themselves imo

That's the point I was making, the song is built around vocals.

Ya and the point I'm making is that's a redundant statement then, it's like saying "if the guitars, vocals, drums and bass on this song which is only guitars vocals drums and bass all weren't good then this song would be bad" y'know
