The Age of Adz has Impossible Soul which automatically elevates its status, but to me this is a far better whole piece.

Seven Swans is like a less accessible version of this album...I think you'd enjoy it but probably to the tune of a 3 if you consider this a 3.5.
Age of Adz has some excellent moments, but a lot of it is too far out there for me.

"^First Sufjan album?"
Yep. I've been delaying listening to him, but I'm trying out some stuff that isn't metal so my music taste is more broad.

Opinions on Sufjan's best album is much more polarised than most other artists.

My order of what I've checked out would be C&L, Illinois, Adz, Michigan, Swans...any of his Christmas disczzzzzz

Strangely though if you got me to pick my favourite songs by Sufjan they'd be split pretty evenly among all five of those albums - I just think C&L and Illinois are the most solid listens from start to finish, particularly the new 'un

Yeah I wouldn't go as far as to say it's "poopy", but it's my least favorite of his full-lengths (aside from his first two).
ADP would be somewhere around Seven Swans and Illinois

I have it rated 3. Everything else he's done (aside from his first two) I've rated at least 4. It is distinctly Sufjan, just not as engaging (for me anyway). Poopy might be too strong but in comparison to some of his other material I think it is warranted.

5'd, after months (has it been months?) of suffering alongside this magnificent record. Queued for yearly, maybe final, Sput-review. Matthew French can look forward with unbridled glee to formulating the perfect putdown

I adore every song on this. Better than Adz in terms of just being concise and listenable.
