"Production differences don't constitute a different direction."

ehhhh, it could; production involves the songwriting process a fair bit of the time. I'm saying the shift in song structure from previous albums that Controller was felt like a one-off. I don't see that same effect here.

Agree to disagree then. They tried some different things but for the most part this feels like a logical progression from Controller. The only reason it feels underwhelming is because Controller was so absurdly good. And I guess because Karl had 0 input on this which I think was a big mistake.

Well yeah I see where you're coming from then in thinking Controller is absurdly good. It's my least favourite album of theirs.

Karl had no input in this? THat's a bummer.

idk the instrumentals all kind of guide the very dreary lyrics throughout very well. never listen to this anymore but when i did this album always reminded me of like, a stormy night on a farm or some shit

they added orchestral arrangements that amplified some parts on this, gave the songs some wind to their wings

ursa minor still fuckin WRECKS as does luminary and departure

reborn could have been the best song ever but the bridge TBH derails it for me

yea that’s where they showcased the orchestra to separate this from the previous 3, could’ve been fleshed out more maybe

yeah for sure. i took a lot of this album as “i’m rusty at writing songs” with a lot of moments of “damn i’m still reaaally good at writing songs”. just wish they would’ve stayed active after this bc another album would’ve probably been amazin

A glimmer of hope to luminary to Reborn is some of the hardest hitting metalcore out there, but i cant say i dig the rest of the album as much
