"Ok I wasn't really being a philosopher when I said that damn. Does it matter?"
I mean yeah it does lol, if you actually want to engage in a conversation with people, you can't say stupid shit like "wow this episode was so predictable" without examining if you ACTUALLY predicted anything. I mean you can tell yourself it's predictable all you want but when you're sharing that opinion then expect it to be criticized if it has a weak basis.
"Agreed. But this was uninteresting AND filler."
This is not filler, that's my point. This did move the plot forward.
1) Varrick, Bolin are now prisoners.
2) Zhu Li has "switched sides"
3) Korra is now an active participant in the conflict
4) Su has launched a covert operation to take out Kuvira.
I don't care if you found these plot developments uninteresting or not since that's a matter of opinion and I simply disagree there, but it's undeniably false that this episode was filler.
----
Anyways you literally understood 0% of my post so I'm going to assume it's not worth my time engaging with you beyond this post. Carry on

Omg it's an episode of Korra, calm down.
I thoroughly enjoy the show, but just didn't care for this episode much.
I thought it was mostly filler. You didn't. Moving on. Lmao.
Idk why it had to resort to you calling my opinions stupid or criticism of two sentences like I just wrote
a book on politics.

When did this turn into Siskel and Ebert? You don't have to go down to the nth degree about your opinion on the matter. It's a cartoon for crying out loud.

We're on a music criticism board. The premise of such a site is that we want to talk about our media (music usually on this site) with at least a modicum of thought. That said, I've never been so sure someone on this site is 16 y/o or younger, so I guess maybe it's my fault for expecting you to participate in any meaningful or nuanced discussion.
Anyways, like I said, carry on with your criticisms if you wish. As previously stated, I have no interest in further engaging your opinion, so I've already "moved on."

That comment wasn't directed at you Toondude but it works too, minus the patronizing "16 y/o" bit.
I think it's a disservice to talk about Korra at a cursory level (i.e. keeping the discussion on the level of our gut reaction, rather than digging deeper and getting a better conversation/ insight), when you consider how much effort is put in these stories. Just stuff like how the airbenders in Season 3 are a rejection of the extremist parts of Zaheer's philosophy: that's totally intentional and makes the season more powerful (in my eyes), but you can't really see that if you leave the conversation at "Well that fight with Zaheer and Korra was awesome." In other words, I think "That tornado thing Jinora & the airbenders did was so badass" is a great starting point for a conversation, because it can lead to interesting conversations about Jinora's role in the story, the thematic implications of that, or even potentially how benders of other nations can combine their power to create really powerful bending.
So I guess I disagree fundamentally with "it's just a cartoon" philosophy, because I'm a huge proponent of critically engaging your media, rather than being a lazy viewer (which is also fine but better for the types of shows that are created to be lazily consumed and has no pretension of doing anything besides being entertaining). It's also why I'm on Sputnik, since I love talking about my music on a deeper level and reading people's extended thoughts on albums (i.e. reviews).

First of all, I'm 21.
Second of all, I'm really not sure what you are calling me immature for.
For not evaluating an episode of Korra like an album? All I said was "Really? I thought the episode was pretty much filler. Nothing interesting happened that I had not predicted."
Now, how in the world is that immature? It's not like I said "wow you guys are idiots for thinking this episode was good and you all suck." I literally just stated my broad opinion and you got hurt by it (even though I made no attempt to devalue your opinion or say you are wrong). Then I responded to each one of your points and you said I didn't "understand" any of what you were saying.
You're the one using words like "stupid" to describe what I write and you want to participate in a "nuanced discussion?" Which, from the looks of it, means I have to agree with you?
|
| |
Again, Zhu Li definitely takes the spotlight
And I have a feeling next week's episode is going to be fantastic

Thanks for the good response. Two things:
1) Scrap the age/immature/ whatever stuff. A bit of an ad hominem on my part so sorry bout that
2) My post was unnecessarily aggressive. Scrap the "stupid" part, okay?
Since we're having an actual convo here, I'll try to be a little clearer on what I mean. You posted saying "I didn't like that episode because it was predictable and therefore was filler." My original post was intended to point out why that's a non sequitur, and that's what the numbered list was for. I stand by these criticisms of your post; while I'll happily accept that you and I disagree on how interesting we found the events of the episode, that doesn't mean I can't criticize your classification of it as filler.
You responded to my post, so to speak, but you never really engaged my point. Now ultimately you're saying "I think it's filler, you don't, who cares?" which is a fair philosophy but my attitude is if we're here to talk about the show, we might as well talk about the show, yeah? But if you don't have any further interest in discussion then yeah I don't really have any intention of engaging you further.
"Immature"
No one has used that word except you. lol. The only reason I thought you were 16 was "You didn't. Moving on. Lmao." and "like I just wrote a book on politics" but it doesn't really matter why. Like I said, just pretend that was never stated.
Am I clearer now? I have no problem with your criticisms. Lord knows I disagree with the fanbase a lot (and I've been as vocal a critic of this show as any, trust me).

also yeah next episode is going to be great, that one scene where Su and her kids are locked away in that one suit is probably when her coup or whatever goes awry.
|
| |
No hard feelings
How do you think Su will react when Korra tells her Toph is alive in the swamp?
|
| |
I doubt she'd be that surprised, it's never suggested Su thinks Toph is dead.
I'm keen to see Hiroshi's role this season. I doubt he's being reincorporated strictly for Asami's sake, especially considering Varrick's project.

I don't think Su thought Toph was dead in the first place so I don't think she'd be surprised. Considering Su said she was looking for enlightenment, I'd imagine her to think that that makes a lot of sense. I haven't seen the preview clip tho, is that what makes you so sure Korra will tell her about Toph?

And yeah Hiroshi's reintroduction had me happy. I feel like they're going to do something a la Tarrlok with him. Being locked away and losing everything makes them re-evaluate everything (sort of the nadir of their character arc) and so they'll find away from him to be redemptive. Not sure how he'll factor into the plot though. There's not enough time for him to create a rival mech, right? (I hope not, I can watch 100 anime for CGI mechs duking it out, so the last thing I want is a mech on mech war.)
|
| |
Rival mechs, doubt it. However, now that we've got the Avatar equivalent of splitting the atom happening
in universe, it's far too convenient to reintroduce him just when Varrick is not only making progress,
but having doubts. It'll all be related to the spirit vine.
Edit: Not trying to suggest that Hiroshi's going to replace Varrick because Varrick is having doubts, I
phrased that badly. It was more a point of how the show is demonstrating the gravity of the new tech and
how the plot will revolve heavily around it.

I honestly don't think so. There's no motive for him to work for Kuvira. I wouldn't be happy if he were working for her. He hates benders, let alone oppressive ones like "The Great Uniter." And betray his daughter again... why?
The only way that could tie in is if Varrick escapes and wants to produce some kind of counter to the spirit energy (maybe somehow using "light energy" given how much that spirit vine's energy looked like Vaatu's energy bending) and needs Future Industries' resources, but then I still don't know how Hiroshi would be useful.
|
| |
I don't see him working with Kuvira either. Whatever he does, it'll be related to countering the spirit vine tech, not helping the Earth Empire develop it. He's the only character introduced whose engineering ingenuity matches Varrick's.
|
| |
Sweet episode! I fucking love Varrick, he's probably my favorite character in the whole series right now.
|
| |
Huan was pretty funny in this episode.
My favorite character is probably Suyin even if it was a bad plan to sneak attack Kuvira.
|
| |
Pretty good episode. Calling the episode Battle of Zafvou was very misleading though and it was a bit underwhelming but shit is building definitely. It was cool seeing Korra battle a lot slower and haphazardly because of her condition. When Korra gets her shit together the final confrontation will be awesome. Also, where the fuck is the counsel and why aren't they even attempting to do anything?

Kuvira would probably just mow them down, plus it's probably too late for them to be able to do much anyway.
