"6 was AWFUL idc that it was religious but the twist was so fucking obvious from episode 2 and it dragged for 9 episodes. The theme of the season was pretty much Dexter loves his son which we already knew and honestly if you skip 5 and 6 and just watch the last episode of season 6 you wouldn't miss anything"
We agree about season 6, but for entirely different reasons. Maybe I'm retarded (idk, don't watch a lot ot TV so,) but the twist was the most enjoyable part for me. But the religion theme was so fucking forced and cliched.. Like, if you're going to inject religion into a TV show (such a huge topic,) at least do it in an insightful way. Every Christian character was so stupid about their beliefs, and the atheism side the show also presented wasn't very well thought-out. Overall it did very little to explore religion-- a very superficial analysis of such a huge theme, and that really irked me.
i will say that I really liked when Dexter gave that one guy a chance (the guy that killed Sam,) and the guy ended up being a scumbag. So through that they showed that some people just have fucked-up ideals, which is a good point for them to illustrate. But damn, I have to many beefs with season 6.
The "villains" in season 6 were the most outlandishly predictable set of bad guys the show has ever seen, and that's really saying something. They just fell into the archetype bad dude that's been established in every single season besides 7, and got killed off in the final episode (surprise surprise!) Yeah, Dex got caught, but I mean, shit. It's about fucking time they pulled that trick, considering the show had stagnated from a plot standpoint for about two seasons at that point.
I dunno, I just get irked with Dexter. The show started off so well, but Season 4 started to show signs of predictability in its finale. And from there, I haven't been excited about it since.
Now in season 7, Dexter has once again forgotten all of his mistakes, and is careless about his kills. Like, does he not recall that his wife died because he slacked off in that regard? So once again, he falters from his carelessness, and once again he has to pick up the pieces. I do like that Deb was included in this, and it's interesting to see the dichotomy between how the two characters see death. I just wish Deb were a more interesting character-- I think she's been a bit predictable overall, but season 8 may be different for her which I'm excited about.
