you don't consider vocals a big part of a band's identity?

he wrote most of the vocal melodies, Layne wrote all the lyrics on Dirt but Jerry wrote 50% of them on Jar Of Flies and he wrote a lot of songs the s/t also

Jerry is an awesome vocalist too, his harmonies have always been essential to AIC's sound.

not really. you're basically saying that jerry cantrell is, and always has been, alice in chains, which we all know isn't true.

well The Doors couldn't find a vocalist who fit the band well, William DuVall is fantastic and really elevates the band as a whole, Layne of course is better

For the most part Cantrell is the man behind most of the music, he was the most prominent creative force in the band no matter how good Layne was. I mean Cantrell's vocal harmonies are part of almost every 90's AIC song, his voice is so smooth, that's why it paired up so well with Layne's voice. Layne was an amazing frontman and vocalist, the band will never be quite the same without him, it's just awesome how well Jerry has been able pursue the band without him.

I think Layne was more important than people give him credit for. I consider him and Cantrell to sorta be the McCartney/Lennon of 90's Alice in Chains. They pretty much contributed everything while the other members just played and went along for the ride

yeah although I give Sean some credit because he's been there the whole time, he's kinda like a giant boulder, a bunch of

stuff can come and go but he's still there

the t/t off it is classic Alice In Chains [2]

I really like the whole album's newer attitude, it's more about aggression than despair which I dig a lot

You guys know your AIC well. I'm more knowledgeable on PJ and SG, since I got into AIC a lot more recently.

But yeah, everybody says that Jerry and Layne were the most influential members of the band.
