I'm under the impression that "Houses of the Holy" was a huge influence on Pop and Bowie during the creation of Pop's The Idiot and Lust For Life. The track feels like it could be placed on either record and would fit perfectly.

"Houses of the Holy" might be the catchiest slab of rock ever written.

In the UK Top of the Pops used the main riff from 'Whole Lotta Love' as their intro jingle for years and years and I've got to admit that's probably why I can't quite embrace that tune as a classic, so I feel you.

I have that problem with like most of their hits. the radio and a lot of commercials bludgeon over the listener on the head with their work, which id imagine as a die hard must be enjoyable, but for someone who only casually enjoys them, my enjoyment has been diminished for sure.
that and i was kicked out of a band where the guitarist swore that this band and rush were the only two worthwhile acts to ever listen to, and nonstop crammed them down the throats of everyone he ever came in contact with. that certainly factors into my waning enjoyment of them

I always put myself in the shoes of a young teen girl circa ‘69 when I listen to ‘Whole Lotta Love’ Makes me wet as fuck tbh.
