^That's a good point. It's why I'd prefer to use the "bro" tag instead of EDM (that is, "bro" electro house, "bro" DnB, etc.) to be more specific but somebody's frowned on that too.

I mean, it's a loosely defined thing. Technically you can dance to any sort of music, and technically most music uses some sort of electronic elements (like a mix-down process or something). So I guess you could call anything EDM if you really wanted to. What people tend to refer to, though (and I may be totally wrong about this), is the kind of music that's heavily marketable like Dev said in the right market. Like, I'll dance to both new Netsky and Enei, but since Enei is far less marketable in the market that most EDM caters to than the new Netsky stuff is, that's the EDM there.

Man you're like the perfect poster boy for anyone looking to sell this shit to. Someone's selling it and you're buying wholesale. It has nothing to do with how "danceable" something is man, like seriously. It's actually really sad to see someone view electronic music (and really any kind of music honestly) in such a way. I mean, I'm a stickler for genres, as in it's either "this" or "that", but seriously you've got it locked down to a profit-centric conglomerate based on what's hot or not

This is why I dislike tourists

It's not really meant to refer to anything specific in the first place. But people know vaguely what you say by it. It's 10x easier than saying "I like dancing to house, techno, dnb, dubstep, electro, grime, garage, jungle, etc"

Actually most people who actively listen to all of those genres would laugh if you said that you listened to edm

*Most people who actively listen to all of those genres who knew what they meant

I don't think the average person who walks into a club and dances to Guetta and co actually knows what
it is. I mean I've heard Deadmau5, Noisia, etc referred to as dubstep more than once before just cos
they have strong synths

And as a fan, this is somewhat true. I enjoy listening to some of the crap people spew out because, hey, sometimes it's actually good. Just like critics enjoy a good wank off the average Burial tune, I have a thing for some shitty American dance music. So sue me. People on this site are basically the only exposure to people I've seen who don't call that shitty American music EDM, and so it's gonna take a while to rub off on me. For now, though, I enjoy some stuff.

Critically, though, things are different. See my Zedd review (2/5) for example - he's selling some absolute crap, and I'm not buying it. Seriously, it's terrible. Just because I refer to something as EDM doesn't mean I like all of it.

No I don't care if you like the stuff at all man, and even if I did what would it matter? Enjoy what you enjoy. I haven't once said that if you refer to something as edm that you must like it, or all edm in general. I just enjoy having a go at the term itself, because it's so pointless and laughable

at least he doesn't rely on just doubling the tempo over and over leading up to a drop like 95% of his imitators do

Clever, you want a cookie now?

"why listen to skrillex when various much better artists exist-demi lovato, cryptopsy, opeth, rebecca black, death, megadeth, anthrax, korn, cannibal corpse, shining, mayhem"

Because comparing Black Metal to Dubstep totally makes sense.

And from complete opposites of the spectrum.

"german person taking joke seriously what a surprise"

A) What joke? There was nothing warranting a non-literal reading of what I quoted. (even if, rhetorical =/= joke)

B) Are you some kind of chauvinist or just plain retarded?

And don't even try to weasel your way out of saying something completely stupid by saying "HERP DERP WASN'T EVEN BNG SERIOUZ WHY U SIRIUZ Y U SO GERMAN MAN" (in case you're not aware, a majority of people including me doesn't take anything seriously on the internet - doesn't mean I can't call people out for saying stupid shit)
