Nah, he's not completely wrong. This is a more controlled album.

So much for letting Hawks down gently.

The atmosphere here is some of the strongest on any DM album ever. And yeah, it's not as fast as Altars, but I think there are many parts that are more powerful and heavier (intro to Day of Suffering as one example). Once again, not as thrashy or whatever but it is more mature imo and basically has everything I love about Morbid Angel in one album.

This is pretty metal I'd say

And here I am thinking the cardboard production and simpler songwriting killed all its atmosphere and left it feeling immature and lacking the ancient feeling of true death metal

Iโ€™d still rate this and Covenant a 3.5 or maybe even a 4 on a good day, but they just have so many lacking elements that feel like a kick in the gut when Altars is the hardest 5 ever known to man

This has grown off me quite a bit where as altars will never do such horrible things

Nnnnnnnnope. Altars isn't really an album I listen to for atmosphere or mood. This album feels like it's building its own world. And I don't mind the production. How is this immature?

And btw I also have Altars 5'd so it's not like I'm not also obsessed with Altars, I just like this a little more for different reasons.

"the ancient feeling of true death metal"

Damn straight, mr. Abortis. Can you speak some more on this subject?

I canโ€™t speak on it as the ancient feeling can only be felt

I guess our cheap words would blemish the ancienticity.
