Ehh I wasn't entirely serious there, but I'd take Garden Of Light over any U2 song though. This is a silly conversation haha

Absence has a serene, ethereal atmosphere that the other albums lack. The subdued sound on the heavier sections gives them this distant, murky quality that somehow makes them seem more despondent and depressing. I dig it.

Agreed it really does stick out. All of their albums have a different sound to them.

Also, it has the band's best drumming performance by a longshot.

Drumming on Absence is ethereal. Nothing touches it.

Sweet man, Im always interested to know how certain people really love albums I dont when it comes to bands I like. To me it makes the heavier sections far less effective. I just never got the same vibe I always felt with Isis after this record. I wish I had.

Like Dulcinea is probably the only track I like of it i wish it was actually a few mins longer. That last section is over before it starts. Agreed on the drumming though.

"I feel with Isis though theres definitely a pre Absence and post absence type of fan"
idk about that, i think my two favorites are Panopticon and Wavering Radiant. but maybe thatll change, i havent jammed their discography in a long time.

Im not saying EVERY single person obviously but having this same debate over the years there are definietly an 'older school' type of fan who dont really get on with much after this. They generally were listening to Isis from the early day. Fans who joined the party later (tool tour gave them mega exposure) seem to hold those later albums as high. Not saying ones right or ones better that the other in a 'I LOVED THIS BAND BEFORE YOU BRUH' Just something ive noticed. Like, just an example, most of my friends some I see some I dont see as much any more but all generally dont listen to later Isis. We all loved them in the day.
But back to the matter at hand, Yeah , Panopticon owns but Theres not a single track on here that doesnt stand miles above anything they wrote afterwards for me. I was happy when they called it a day.

People just cant forget Isis. I hope they'll reform like SOAD, give some lives here and there. I really missed them back there in Russia.

Damn I'd love to have seen that show. I caught them with Melvins in '10 though and that was pretty awesome.
