the fact that the songs are two minutes long and simple songwriting with overdrive.

I'm sorry the band isn't edgy enough for you.

Every song is killer on this except for a few that don't hit as hard, but even then they're still good-great tracks

Nah I completely agree with that, it's the weakest song for sure. It's still like a 2.8 and I don't hate it but the album would be better without it. The others I'm not totally crazy about but still think are pretty good are Four Horseman Koka Kola and Wrong Em Boyo. London Calling all the way to Death & Glory is basically a perfect run of songs. I feel like Card Cheat and I'm Not Down are a bit overlooked

first wave punk is mostly boring and limp

I don't really see this that punk-y so I understand why the jangly bits and SKA/jazz turn you off, but I kind of love how absurd it is

Spanish Bombs is so so good

I’d say comparing this to the ‘Lust for Life’ album would be more of a fair comparison than the Stooges.

This would win that clash (heh) hands down.

This isn’t trying to be heavy or raw.

Right it's more punk in lyrics than sound

This was fun

A couple songs were giving me honest to god elton john vibes which I was not expecting.

I mean I consider this sort of a post punk record. And like new wave, which is also punk derivative, like post punk's slightly younger sibling. If you broaden your definition of punk, it's an easier sell. Punk can sound like Siege or Orchid or Joy Division or Siouxsie and the Banshees or The Jesus Lizard in my mind. I think this plenty punk in sound, it's just not as straightforward or aggressive as say, The Stooges on Raw Power. The vocals are very punk, just melodic.
