his drug and weight problem definitely affected his voice, according to his own words, his voice doesn’t have as much body here especially when he hits the high notes



yet he also still sounds incredible and makes it work lol, kinda like how Robert plant’s voice changed around HotH with the squealy vocals

Imagine having to autotune Deftones though, the singer is off-key half the time. You'd need to discuss every note lmfao... "Hello Chino is this note supposed to sound like this or not? And the one after that? And the one after that?"



Honestly though, this record does sound 'cleaner' vocally, so I get the assumption that it was done here. But that first high note on Cherry Waves can just be his voice breaking up a bit, try recording vocals and you know random computer sounding shit like that can happen naturally haha

For sure. That full play through of Diamond Eyes right around its release is their best live recording ever. Chino had his weight in check and it seemed like he eased back on the drugs/liquor
