Dr. Dre always used studio musicians for his stuff. That's why it sounded better than most other producers. The west generally tried to use real instruments since the beats were a lot of the time original and not sampled and if they were they were re-worked.



Probably was an inspiration since Kendrick himself is from the west

Part of the reason I think that is kenny says “last LP was for the black artists” on DAMN which led me to believe this album is just kinda a celebration of the best that black artists have to offer
