Yeah, I understood the lyrics in 'Monster', I just thought they sucked. In 'Devil In a New Dress', Kanye's lines were much more emotive and meaningful, and actually made contextual sense considering the title of the song. Other than Rick Ross' intro lyric of 'LOOKIN' AT MY BITCH I BET SHE GIVE UR ASS A BONE', he literally doesn't have a single lyric about anything other than how great and rich he is, or relating to the song title. Also, idgaf about Wu-Tang or their style. I only like hip-hop when it sounds how I like it and the lyrics are either deep or intelligent, or rhyme well.

That aside, this album is great. The production is next-fucking-level throughout.

Is there a problem with appreciating intelligent lyrics? Or are you just isolating that 1 word in my entire post because you recognise that Rick Ross' verse is entirely superficial and could be literally transferred to any rap song ever and it would still be average, so you'd rather pick 1 small aspect of 1 genre that I enjoy to try and devalue my point of view entirely? Pretty transparent bro. Taking lessons on laziness from Rick Ross, it seems.

Using the term intelligent is just funny lol

Idk why you hate on Rick Ross so much. I'm not even a big fan of him but he just is dope on Devil In A New Dress. Everyone knows this. He spits barsssss

Also I brought up Wu Tang because they rap/rhyme like crazy which you then said you enjoy from rap lol

Why does his verse need to relate to the song title lol? His verse fits the song and album perfectly as is.

I don't hate Rick Ross. Never said that. I don't give a shit about him. I said I hated his intro to 'Monster' and that Kanye's verse on 'Devil In a New Dress' was better than his.

And to AlexK, it doesn't 'need' to, and I never even suggested that. My argument was that Kanye's verse was better overall. The fact that Rick Ross' lyrics weren't relevant to the song was just one of the reasons I stated for why that is. It may fit into the album well but to say it "fits into the song perfectly" is just demonstrably wrong.

I said "hate on" brah

I agree with Alex it fits pretty well into the song imo. I've never had a problem with it.

The song/Kanye’s verse isn’t even really about anything in particular. Kanye’s just riffing about some girl he’s with lol it’s not that deep. I feel like this wouldn’t even be an issue if Ross’s verse was first.

No, Kanye's verse is about the girl he's with, and how she is (and I quote): "Satan, Satan, Satan..." "The way you look should be a sin, you my sin-sation. I know I'm preaching to the congregation, we love Jesus but she done learned a lot from Satan"... The Devil in the new dress... Literally about that specific topic, in particular.

Let's be honest, Drifter, you started the whole thing about Kanye's quality of lyrics by stating that dude's opinion was "Simply incorrect. Just wrong." So clearly you have a personal interest in the quality of his lyrical content - which is literally what I was talking about which you now, 1 page later, say you don't care about at all.

I made a comment on a music site saying I preferred one verse of a song over another. You cared so much you went straight for the insult by calling me a 'dweeb'. We then had a conversation relating to the lyrical content of a song on a music site (shocker, I know). I said a few things, you misconstrued a few things. You ignore my actual point, which if you reread the comments you will see I was just trying to defend my musical opinion (again, on a music site, unheard of). You don't make any points of your own, but just make fun of the wording I used, like someone with high quality, foundational opinions of course does... I was being fairly respectful of your opinions but you were just being a dick.

AlexK popped up, and I made an entirely fair and good point about the relationship between Kanye's lyrics and the song title, which he was straight-up denying was there. I even provided you guys with a quote because on a musical discussion website, I figured it would be a good thing to do. I don't see how you can be saying "who cares" when you literally replied to all of my comments and then just gave up when I made a quality point on a topic that I was literally in agreement with your own opinion of. It really is painfully transparent.

Also, I like debating. I care about debating. I care about music. I care about people's opinions and why they hold them. I care about my opinions and why I hold them. I care about having fair opinions, which is why I communicate them with others. I care about expressing myself.

Looking forward to your pseudo-nonchalant 1-word response or the exhaustion of your entire repertoire of retorts which would come in the form of an insult revolving around the fact that this is a long response. But hopefully you can figure out why this is a long response based on the aforementioned information I gave you about my interests.

Ok I shouldn't have said "Who cares." I had just woken up when I put that which is not a good excuse but I'm sorry. That was a big dick move.

But I did explain why I think his Rick Ross' part in Monster is dope.

Looking back at it now I never realized that was why the song was called Devil In A New Dress. That's actually really interesting and does change how I think about the song.

Rick Ross' part doesn't totally relate to the song but he still has some great bars on it which make up for it for me.

It's cool bro, we've all been there. We're both agreed the album in general is dope which is the most important thing. Hope you have a good weekend.
