It was okay, had a lot to do so it wasn't really a weekend. More like running around fixing my life up.
On the plus side, I smashed out a review here finally.

Nice! I'll have a look.
Went to see Underworld in Amsterdam, they rule so hard live always. Had a great time.

so of course after months of driving people crazy trying to get this thing, just in time for the holidays they're not only keeping it stocked but also releasing a cheaper wide release version
I'm glad I decided to wait for that very reason

Did they announce that? Finally!

I haven't seen an official announcement yet but the big version has been in stock on Amazon for the past week (where before it was selling out within a day) and there's a pre-order for a smaller book edition

Missed KJ due to work
Show was better than I expected. Set list gave us a bit of each era
There was a stretch near the beginning where I think they played Parabol/Parabola - Pneuma - Schism one after the other which was easily the best part of the night. Created a really meditative atmosphere. They played intolerance which ruled.
The new songs sounded great live. The kind of slow burning jam session feel made a lot more sense live than on record. The increased rhythmic complexity of FI relative to the old music was really evident, it was nuts watching Danny pull off some of the patterns. I was surprised that they played CCT/invincible as part of the encore, those didn’t really bring the house down. 7empest would have probably been a better choice. That was my only gripe with the setlist
Maynard was much better than I expected. I guess he can still rip in small doses. He only struggled with the high notes on two occasions: the high notes at the end of Vicarious, and dropped a couple pitches on one of the choruses of 46&2.
Overall awesome show. Easily one of the best bands I’ve seen live in terms of execution.

listening along
was so happy when they actually put the snare on at the end of pneuma lol it sorta marks the first 15 minutes of the album as an intro
everything's tight and rhythmic but I always wonder how musicians who are so good at performing could be so uninterested in harmony. invincible's intro is promising but then it just turns into that typical plucking holding pattern and the snare is back off and maynard's voice makes me think of porcupine tree and if the whole gimmick of the album is gradually letting the guitar notes ring infinitessimally longer before being muted until they turn the snare on and that's your crescendo then i'm going to be really dissatisfed
all invincible's bits are bridges that lead to other bridges

Why is this not the top-rated soundoff?

Has Tool ever written a song not in the key of D

I always wanted to make one of those "{band} in 10 seconds" videos for Tool where it would just be every single D power chord they did

They have a few songs that aren't in D but they are definitely the exception and not the rule
On this album, the only song that's not in D is Culling Voices (which is in B I believe)
|

Sync it up so it's in 5/4 or 7/4 and you have a trending video
I thought The Grudge was in Drop B for some reason but no, apparently D.

Culling Voices is my least favourite song on this album. Damn
