Just starting this and Mirror Deep reminds me of older Mastodon in a great way. Looking forward to the rest!

It's weird that I like funeral doom but somehow find this too slow for its own good.

Everyone who said that this album flies by despite being over an hour long is correct: it never feels long nor drags. I hear so many good sludge influences in here.

Other way around man, Neurosis was a massive influence on Mastodon and sludge in general.

Feel like I'm traveling through space at 6:40 off 'First Red Rays'. Euphoric track.

Oh yeah, I know that--I personally encountered and engaged with Mastodon waaayyy before Neurosis though.

I got into both during the same period in my life a couple of decades ago (damn lol) and a) legitimately cannot remember which came first, I’m ASSUMING Masto but idk really and b) would have amusingly had zero clue you could connect the two in any way whatsoever apart from ‘metal’
