Album is good but I feel like it's getting more hype than it should from people who have never listened to any other Converge album before/people who didn't like them doing weird shit on AWLWLB/TDIU.
Like you listen to this, then go pick a track from random from something like Axe to Fall or No Heroes and both of those older albums blow this one out of the water.

yea, the thing that bugs me the most is like they lost a bit of their identity in riffs department, this one has some really generic hardcore/metal riffs for Converge standards. don't get me wrong, they're still good riffs for the most part, I just miss those unique/weird parts Kurt is know for

this album reminds me a lot of the most recent cave in album tbh, which tbf i really loved but also def takes on a bit more of a dad metal quality that i think kinda bled into this one a bit.
obv newton plays on it and ballou produced it... but i find a lot of the riffs really similar and they even do a lot of the same "scream the title of the song over and over" choruses.

Yea I preordered that cave in record off the singles and I don’t think I’ve listened to it since I got it. Very dad metal

Am I scared?

shit, I’m so jealous of PyramidNoise, nice lost soul av … reminds me of what was lost indeed lol
yeah, I’m kinda agreeing with a lot of the above in general, even tho I still like this. It’s a great homage to what went before. It’s almost nostalgic despite being new. It really feels like this is FOR us long-time fans, yet it’s also perhaps a little underwhelming because of that. We’ve heard this before. Conflicting in a way

I’ve been a fan for fifteen years, love both those albums, and love this. This more straightforward approach to songwriting is exactly what I wanted from them coming off the heels of Bloodmoon

I like this album even more after jamming their discog following this albums release. Been a fan since Axe dropped. I appreciate the experimentation on Love/Dusk but the more aggressive Converge stuff has always resonated more with me. Their focus on aggression also made the more melodic/experimental cuts hit harder in the context of past albums. They kind of circled back to that idea on this one

Yeah I adore both of those albums, like seriously AWLWLB is probably a top 5 record ever for me, but they both feel a little tonally inconsistent, The Dusk in Us especially. I always felt like the title track kinda comes out of nowhere, like after five straight heaters we have this moody post rock track that kinda kills the momentum of the album. I love that they just went into the studio and made something that is this consistently dark. Like I feel like this and YFM are definitely the most bleak albums they’ve ever made.

I feel like the debate over their best albums really is a testament to how good the band is. It's amazing how pretty much every album can reach people differently

i put this one fairly high, maybe 4th or 5th best mainly because it's just a straightforward wrecking ball album.
