God damn I do hate the little details that get buried when Courtney is so loud in the mix, that sounds fantastic

All of their playthroughs are worthwhile because yes shit loads of guitar work gets buried in their mix I don’t get that choice

Ya it's unfortunate, Mike was far more up front in the early stuff

" it's nice hearing Perfect Soul without vocals"

This is the worst thing I've read all day

Perfect Soul is the best song on here because of the vocals lol

Yeah this album is pretty pretty boring. Haven't had the the urge to return to it at all.

I'm having a monstrously hard time accepting Perfect Soul as an example of a shit load of guitar work getting buried in the mix here. It's a damn good leading riff, but the whole song is clearly engineered(successfully) to work in tandem and not opposition to the vocals.

You're certainly free to your own opinions, but ERRA has an entire instrumental version of their s/t if there ever was a place to go digging for buried riffstrosities, js

or just jam self titled anyway as its the goat of goats regardless

i dont really have any problems with the mix of perfect soul, i just think its kind of a formulaic song

Formulaic, but awesome

I think I said this a few pages ago, but songs like Jaded and Perfect Soul are the ones that get stuck in my head and that I return back to all of the time. A lot of stuff on Eternal Blue was formulaic, but I loved it - writing shit like that and actually have it stand out is wildly hard to do

Self titled rules as well, though

Agreed. I love Spiritbox for what it is; extremely tight, well-written, and fucking catchy metalcore. I don't need them to technically blow my socks off when their music is just so damned fun.

But it needs to be catchy. That’s why I don’t love this

Yeah, I could say a lot of things about this record, but lack of catchiness is certainly not on my list lmao

No, every song doesn’t have a hook In my opinion. And of the ones that do they mostly aren’t that great. Perfect soul, keep sweet, Deep end are the exceptions. Haven with two faces is the best track. Soft spine and no love no loss are great. The other 5 I could do without

I'd argue you have title track stonks rated low, tbh
