This album reinspired my hopes for new Opeth in this modern age, but I'm so curious to see where they go from here.

In Mikael's interview with Ola Englund for this album, they realized that the "non-growling era" of Opeth was longer than the "growling era". Seemed crazy to hear at first. But Mikael sounded like he got out of his system any of his feelings towards that whole idea and now anything is on the table. This album just seems like a perfect middle ground, and they knocked it out of the park.
