didn't realize just how close this album came to not existing
interesting that Palo Santo was the first song written, might explain why it's somewhat different from the other tracks

"pretty sure the 'naysayers' just don't like the album
and my recent couple of jams have produced a bunch of new reasons why that take is dumb+wrong"
curious to hear some of those. love how everyone says people who dont like it dont even give a reason when i gave a list of reasons

am being tongue in cheek lol, mainly talking about forming emotional attachments with a few tracks I didn't see coming at first (Leviathan and Palm Reader mainly) and gradually appreciating how well some specific sections are constructed (second half of Nazar is currently a standout). there's a lot on offer here - maybe too much, but I think the band do a mostly superb job of balancing ambitious songwriting with motifs/refrains that give their track a rly clear centre of emotional gravity (Palm Reader main riff is maybe the standout here). never feels one dimensional in the same way as even Frail Body brush against for me, and that's usually my turnoff for nu skramz
I've been using a 4gb ipod nano from a million years ago for commuting recently (pains of not streaming my library), and it's usually filled with my recently added playlist + 200ish tracks shuffled from a larger pool of stuff I either like or listen to a lot — so basically, I've been hearing a lot of this individually on shuffle, getting a much more focused read on each track, and then often following through on the whole album, and idk, I think it holds up just as well as a sum of its parts and that there are a bunch of tracks I'd save for non-album listening, which is always a good sign. flows v well as a whole too, but given the lengthy runtime, combined intensity of tracks overriding individual details, and decision to have the most blockbuster and arguably corny tracks at the bookend placements re. Blood Moon/Palo and Bodega Head (which I do still like q a bit), I can see how you wouldn't fw from one or two spins if you weren't that invested in latching on to begin with
but then again, I don't think I was that invested at first either!? who knows lol, am spitballing here throw me a bone

Then again you’re right about the emotional aspect as this really does hit me good and proper at times. Confirmed with another once through today over a cheeky pint

Pleb picks prolly but I’m digging Leviathan / Heat Desth and No Gospel / Transfug combos. The interlude in between works well as a segue too
Working on the later cuts because there are hidden gems here I’m sure

Kinda wish I didn't revisit Clairvoyant before diving into this, it made me miss the drum sound/performance quite a lot. That said, this is cleeeeaan in a good way, will probably grow for me
