'Damn demon posted cringe hate to see it'
just trying to get on the right level so I can understand things better, I mean how else is one supposed to respond to such a comment? Suits the thread anyway

"yeah, honestly if there's one thing I'm thankful for re Sput's quietness, it's that the silent majority appear to have inferior taste compared to the 'visible userbase' here"
This really gives off a vibe of someone that jacks off to the smell of their own farts with their "superior" intellect.

On the bright side he said we all have good taste? Am I reading that right 😂

I'm not sure, perhaps we need to parse better, aw shucks

living for this groupcope in defense of however many NPC users who contribute absolutely nothing to the site beyond the inflation of mediocre metalcore album averages
birds of a feather

Didn't you just go off on a ramble review about how we should respect grind albums and music in general that nails tropes and whatnot
And now you're stomping your feet because -core fans are enjoying an alb that does just that
Step off the high horse honey.

I commented on how most analysis that I've seen on this site of either tropes or innovation is facile and either triumphs or defends one against the other, all in the context of an album that very conveniently balances striking ideas alongside established formulae and shows of the strengths of both
If you do need someone to hold your hand mid-parse after all, the implication there is that "Liturgy are amazing because they're original and other black metal isn't" is as shallow a comment as "Counterparts suck because they rip off Misery Signals" or "Johnny Booth are bad because they sound like other metalcore"
This in no way prohibits a little more substantive analysis as per "Johnny Booth are mid because they competently rehash metalcore formulae *but frequently direct this towards unimaginative songwriting* and borrow heavily from Car Bomb-esque robot squeals *without finding the space in their songs to incorporate this as anything more than an obnoxious gimmick*"
There is a big difference between blaming the tropes for mid artists and blaming mid artists for setting the tropes to mediocre ends, I am surprised to have to explain this to you. Case-in-point = it's not that dropping 'honey' at the end of a comment doesn't convey sass, but MarsKid's usage of this word mid-cope overlooks that the word lands best when its condescending nuances enjoy the higher ground

are you currently in the phase where you moan about earnest engagement on sputnik or the phase where you flip out because gosh the temperature's getting a little spicy, i'm finding it *very* hard to tell

merely an observation, the only thing you can ascertain from my stance here is that I have an opinion about other people's opinions, which is internet / Sput 101
yes, I think certain styles of music have over-inflated averages, many of which are boosted by users who hardly comment (if at all)

every other month a user comes out of the woodwork with a really distinctive and very much welcome taste and i am reminded why the side of sput i most value now is so much more to do with the voices, recs and suggestions of individual people than the pushover hype thresholds around albums like these
isn't just a -core thing, but now that the sput indie folk circlejerk has finally kinda off somewhat, it's a struggle to think of another scene that enjoys such preferential treatment. blackgaze and dm maybe joint second, but still a long way behind

I've never interpreted any content from you as earnest my man. Your approach to discourse has always been to strong-arm with insults and act holier-than-thou like your taste makes you superior by default. And I assumed for a while that was a persona, but having interacted enough with you in and out of Sput, that's really just... who you are, I suppose, unless someone happens to be in your clique. And it gets to a point where my heart just sinks seeing you in a thread I'm active in, since if I dare disagree I'll receive a dressing-down on how my taste is horrible, how I'm dumb and clearly didn't ready properly, so on and so on.
It seemed clear to me in your opening paragraphs that you were explaining how people rail against basics even in cases where said basics are done well, and how in that context, slight innovations are given far too much credit when really they're more of a gimmick--fair enough. To put that out there and then march into here about how the site's taste is failing and every -core fan is a blank slate that doesn't contribute just seems in such horrendously poor taste.
I'm not the biggest fan of this album for sure, but if people find it pushes the right buttons and nails those tropes--so what, I guess? I'm not sure why you take it upon yourself to lash out at people for sometimes just enjoying music and leaving it at that. And if I have incorrectly parsed then I suppose I apologize for misinterpreting.

Sput to me is about comradery and getting away from the bullsh*t of life, a place where I can talk about music in a way I normally can't. The friendships here and community matter most, and from that there's both a diversity of taste and people that are just here enjoying what they enjoy. I see beauty in all of that.

What crawled up everyone's collective asses around here? Jesus. It's a fucking outdated music site and people want to talk about an album they like. If that irks you or upsets you then maybe just click that little back button and go to a different thread? What's the big deal?
