For me i reckon 72 Seasons could of been the natural progression next album from the black album.
Pretend Load and reload never happened, and say in 1997 or '98 this album came out as Black Album's successor.
I think it has some black album sounds - especially Crown of Barbed Wire and chasing light, I can see them being on the black album, maybe like
7. Through the Never
8 Crown of Barbed Wire
9 Of Wolf and Man
10 Chasing Light
11 The God that failed
etc etc, anyway i like to imagine it as so. Food for thought....

Yeah the album has an interesting blend of a lot of their sounds throughout their career

Keep coming back to this so it's doing something right. Agree with above it has an interesting blend of a lot of their sounds throughout their career. Just a few issues, hit-hat too loud and some songs shouldn't have made the cut Room of Mirrors being one. But I dig Crown of Barbed wire and Chasing shite

Yeah, I've actually been revisiting this quite a bit as well. Just jammed Chasing Light and the t/t while at the gym today

I deff enjoy load, magnetic and this-hardwired but idk it's all i don't wanna say bottom of the barrel but kinda low on the totem pole compared to the first 5 albums. Especially the 80s stuff. It's a whole different vibe nowdays with the music it's almost like they became a different band after justice-black album nothing they did after will ever touch 80s metallica. Lars was actually good,James vocals were so much meaner and more aggressive, Cliff, they just wrote better songs when they were in the 20s and had the "magic". Alot of stuff after black album while enjoyable and welcomed by me just really doesn't stack up to those first 5 records. It's the first 4-5 albums then every thing after is somewhat just a afterthought some other metallica to jam that's fresher but not nearly as enjoyable

Just throwing this out there, If it was lars instead of cliff who unfortunately died, I think we would consider him a great dummer. But his peformance really metallica record for the past 30 years is pretty terrible

What happened happened, and we can't change the past. And Lars' old performances are still there to show us how solid he was in his heyday. I'm really tired of that argument coming up, regardless of how he's perceived now

He gets the job done nowadays he's not a bad drummer at all. He's not gene hoglan but he's still Lars and he's very important to metallica. It wouldn't be metallica without him he plays a huge role in writing the songs and along with James is the heart of the band

Yeah it's not like Lars' drumming makes songs worse, it just doesn't make them better but that's okay. Kirk's solos on the other hand can be a real nuisance at times.

yeah honestly Kirk is more irritatingly lazy than Lars is at this point. At least Lars offers the major business aspect to the band, Kirk offers nearly zero musical contributions and improvizes all of his solos.

"yeah honestly Kirk is more irritatingly lazy than Lars is at this point."
exactly and it seems like kirk gets way less shit because he's far more likeable
i totally understand people shitting on lars's sloppy live playing, but he's completely fine in the studio in all honesty. and i understand people thinking his simplicity holds back an album like death magnetic... but i don't understand what it is people want lars to be playing here?? most of these songs are just simple mid tempo chugg riffs there's only so much you can really do to spice those up as a drummer without kinda ruining the songs
