it’s like when your republican uncle uses problematic terminology but ultimately reaches the right conclusion so you let it slide

I know why he chose to use slurs in that song but it still doesn’t feel great to listen to

Album Rating: 3.0
The slurs would have been at least a little nuanced if he hadn't already whined about cancel culture a trillion times before that track

| |
Album Rating: 4.0
I find it weird how people are either obsessed with cancel culture and think it’s ruining all of society or think it’s completely non-existent and even mentioning it once is inherently wrong

“I know why he chose to use slurs in that song but it still doesn’t feel great to listen to”
He’s trying to be provocative to bring attention to the song and ultimately its (good) message, but being provocative is a pretty tasteless and dumb thing to do when it comes to identity politics
|
| |
if Kendrick comes out I’ll allow it
|
| |
I think keeping in mind that the song is pretty firmly pitched to Kendrick's audience (or imagined audience) of cishet rap fans, the provocation is both thematically useful and aesthetically coherent, but it does objectively go past the limit of good taste too and I'm not totally convinced he's either fully aware of that or fully willing to sweat the contingent negativity

has art gone too far??
|

I don't know but I'll be damned if I don't try to cancel it anyway!!

Did we ever figure out what Big Steppers are
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
I thought the album title was the identity crisis he’s going through here.
A big stepper is a gangster, someone who steps out with a gun or looking for a fight or worse and Kendrick feels like he’s now older and wiser so is trying to be Mr Morale instead.
