Sputnik threads that are older than a certain age break halfway through each thread page half the time and there's tons of clunk here, but go off I guess
also this might become a 5 later, I just need to spin it more. i dont insta-5 often.

>break halfway through each thread page half the time
that has more to do with how many comments have been deleted iirc

rym is bigger and better in literally every single way except the community

@park: i mean every thread from like 2010-2012 or earlier seems to have the frogstomp break it halfway through the page
|
| |
like park said, that issue is linked to deleted comments and therefore primarily impacts older threads for iconic albums (mostly for pre-2010 reviews). it is dumb but not an overall functionality issue
rym is a fantastic database full of godawful minireviews and comments too cringe to warrant a response.
sputnik is a community site where people have conversations about music. use rym when you want to find an album and use sputnik when you either want to ask someone else to find one for you or bitch about why band X is trash and should never be allowed to record music again.
this is the difference and you now know it. i'll be here all day do you have any other questions i can tell you how adjectives work or how to cook pasta or anything else that may be weighing on you

RYM sucks and is a circle jerk of fantano stans who take what he says as gospel
|
| |
if your only insight on rym is from trawling simp takes on albums that everyone has either heard or decided not to hear, you've been wasting your time there

i refuse to accept that finding something on rym is easier than on sputnik.
|
| |
in the sense that on sputnik you type the bandname into the searchbar and if you've spelt it right it will immediately appear and if any of the 10 people who bother adding albums to the database have added the albums, then they are there, yes maybe correct
in the sense that rym's search tools run across ten times as many variables and are far better suited for referencing and discovery, absolutely not lmao

if we all put $100 down maybe jeremy will make sputnik do that thing that rym does too!

RYM community aint that bad if you're able to tune out the insufferable takes, there's actually good variety in opinion and taste over yonder. but it's a lot more fun (and easy) to interact with users here
but yea it surpasses Sputnik as a database and tool in every other conceivable way

Maybe it is easy to find music on RYM but certainly sputnikmusic is really good in this respect too. I can find anything I'd ever want to pretty easily here. The front page features, charts, articles, tags, etc. all have plenty for me to explore.
People say the community is better here but imo there are a lot of elitist gatekeeping assholes who often make the community aspect here negative. Just look at smug showoffs like Johnny's recent comments in this thread, or the people saying it's a "bruh" moment to 3.5 this album.
It's sputnik's core functionality and organization that are perfection. Whoever designed it is god.

Johnny's comments are better than 90% of the ones on this thread so 🤷
also, I've seen the word "gatekeeping" thrown around a lot, mostly on core threads, and I've yet to see a real example of it around here. elitism for sure, but not gatekeeping

tbqh it is my life's mission to gatekeep online music search engines on the threads of albums i have never heard
as for pasta uh uh uh haven't actually cooked pasta in over a yr RIP, but boil it with a dash of olive oil and as much salt as your bloodstream can handle, avoid conchiglie and simp for farfalle and linguine, and you'll be good ig.

quite bland in the scope of core tbh
exactly what I thought it would sound like and this is the first time ive heard anything by these guys

RYM is orders of magnitude above sput as a database but the layout of sput is weirdly a lot nicer imo, lends itself better to community discussion i think
