I always forget about these guys for some reason, but always enjoy them when I binge their music.

Same. I think I have a subconscious stigma against them from old sput, even though I like almost all their stuff.

Yeah they definitely get a lot less hate now, and Alex was a fantastic addition

i kinda liked them better when their lyrics didn't read like artsy dungeons and dragons fantasies

^ I feel like I've seen you comment that 100 times now, lol

you're right
it's just kinda weird that this is the one trivium album with a 4 when it feels like a regression from the last couple and an uninspired take on trying to do "another Shogun." it's not even REALLY the lyrics, it just feels like they're running the same formulas and it's getting a little tiring.

Give me more DnD Trivium tbh

I was going to say best since Shogun but then remembered Side A of In Waves is pretty damn strong. Cover art is the best they've ever had.
Going to spin this in its entirety tonight, it's been a while.

"it just feels like they're running the same formulas and it's getting a little tiring."
lmao honestly this is not entirely false... these last three albums is the most "consistent" they've ever sounded, and is overall pretty bread and butter trivium (which is kinda what everyone has wanted for so long)
feel like the next album is bound to be deviate from this... heafy can't help himself

Man as much as I want to give In Waves shit for the T/T, there's too many good moments on that album to not call it at least a 4. Dusk Dismantled and Caustic... are top-tier Trivium.

In Waves t/t is pretty sweet. Watch The World Burn is annoying though.

In Waves is their most inconsistent record by far. The heavy stuff is mostly pretty good. Dusk Dismantled is indeed a banger and a half. Title track is iconic but it annoys me quite a bit. It's also such a step down from Shogun that it's really disappointing even to this day.

if true i'm interested. Love seeing bands try new things and experimenting. i liked ibaraki a lot more than this even if a lot of it just kinda sounds like trivium with a slight black metal bent.

I wouldn't mind some more DnD Trivium.

Might just be him safely admitting that he sometimes wants to write poppy shit that OG fans don't like as much as the classic albums, but he's said on stream many times that he likes how a lot of their fans enjoy some albums and not others. Seeing as how the last three have gotten further away from their poppy safe side, I think the next will almost certainly be substantially different.
But then again this dude has been surprising me since 2004 so the fuck do I know

To be honest I love me a good trivium pop songs. Some work better than other though. New Triv is always welcome
