a resonable observation

Reading through the review and I think there's a significant overstatement here of exactly how subversive this is.

"She’s defying the pop status quo, challenging the idea that fame and fortune is rooted in mild manners and always smiling for the tabloids."

Very much a two sides of the same coin scenario. That idea has little to do with mildness and a lot more to do with glamour and postulation, of which this is just another configuration. There's nothing here that sets her far apart from Lana del Rey's damaged-goods persona or the quiet dissidence early Lorde channelled, although she's less grandiose and hyperbolic than Lana and far more crass than Lorde. Album's full of sulk and projected irreverence but there's not a hint of risk or danger here.

You gave Yeule a 2.5 though, so that 1.5 point difference splits out neatly

everyone heard Bury A Friend, blew their load, called this the most subversive pop album of the century based on that one track before the rest of the album came out, heard it, and instead of backpedalling the fuck out of there they just kept pretending.
