you know uncle, for someone that (usually rightfully) lols at snowflake overreactions to things, you sure seem to be doing exactly that in response to halfman's comment, which was honestly just an observation, and an astute one at that, despite your opinion that it is a nitpick. I read it more as intending to elicit conversation about flows (which is half of why this website is enjoyable), which you promptly shut down with an odd sense of superiority. I mean the dude has the album 4.5'd, what about his comment made you fly into a lecture about critiquing classic albums, flows, etc...? we got a biiig lil ugly mane fan here folks

The latter half of the 2010s has seen a boom of this style of lofi minimal glacial hip-hop production and burnt-out rapping. It was a fresh aesthetic once, but that was long before this album came out. By 2018 that style in general was already starting to feel a bit dated, and this just wasn't even a good example of it for me. The UK particularly been doing it darker, danker, and harder, and they continue to do it that way. Or you could go back to 2015 and fucks with Chester Watson or Dr. Yen Lo and get more inspired material too. Hell, you could also just listen to I Don't Like Shit I Don't Go Outside for a more exciting stab at it.

Peep the album Days With Dr. Yen Lo, it goes to extremes in regards to minimalism. It's virtually percussion-less. Chester Watson stuff is a bit more comparable to Earl's specific style. The UK stuff in question is everything Blah Records affiliated, from the Cult of the Damned / Children of the Damned supergroups to pretty much anything involving or co-signed by Lee Scott. Bisk, Hock Tu Down, Trellion, Bill Shakes, Stinkin Slumrok, early Onoe Caponoe etc etc. You could try some early Shahmen or Cult Favourite for something on the darker and more conceptual end of the spectrum too.

There is a 2020 alb called Swamp Harbour by Bisk, Sam Zircon, and Slumrok that is pretty fucking great, probably the most recent offering that I'd really rec. A lot of UK shit takes the lethargy, depressiveness, minimalism and rough production and turns the punch up to 10. It's like boom bap meets abstract hip-hop. It's fucking grim and immaculate.
