It is reasonably okay, I think
wow, had no idea you loved this Mort.! This fills me with indescribable feelings of something or other.

Ridiculously underrated. Doesn’t garner a sniff anywhere even in this day and age where some right shite from the past gets lauded as classic.
Staggering album.

best Slowdive indeed (still love Souvlaki)
I think this has somewhat of a cult following, no? Although I'm led to believe it received a relatively lukewarm reception at the time of release and then (some) retrospective praise later

Don’t remember it in 1995 at all. There’s no way it would’ve been held in high regard then, far too much going on with Britpop, Beatles revival and dance music.

Oh no, it was mostly overlooked I believe. But even underneath the surface, the attention it did receive wasn't wholly positive. I'm clearly not talking from experience here, just what I've read (I had no clue who Slowdive were in 1995!)

yeah this is one of my favourite albums and for a while was my favourite by far. even considered getting a tattoo of the album art
Got into this while i was reading a lot of philosophy of religion for my final year at uni. Something about the music and the content of my reading matched up to make a really unique experience. I have genuinely wonderful memories of sitting at a desk reading, sipping a cup of tea with this on in the background. It was serene

Unashamed Shoegazer from back when it was the darling in the eye of the music press. Went to Oxford and bought Ride’s first EP on vinyl when it came out. But alas it wasn’t meant to be. Brit pop and grunge buried it for good. Hated Brit pop. Thankfully Neil started hanging round with and living with the members from Seefeel and going to night clubs playing Aphex Twin and Autechre. And - so Pygmalion was born.

Shoegaze > Britpop and / or grunge easy, but let’s be honest it was never going to be popular… completely different vibe not compatible with the mainstream.
