Same logic/teeth is so ridiculously good
New national is a little disappointing imo. Not as immediate or catchy as trouble, which ran the full gamut of emotion; swb seems kinda 1 dimensional by comparison

I've come to accept that I just do not like In The Water at all

I can definitely see why. Song sounds like a generic radio rock song from the 90s

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like same teeth. in fact I got tired of skipping it and just deleted it.
Maybe I'll come back to it after the rest of the album has really opened up for me.

No joke dude, "In The Water" & "137" are still in the spin rotation, but that's it. This just made me listen to other BN albums more somehow

I thought I rated this... Pretty hard 3. I'll try to jam one more time before settling in score. I've maybe heard this in full 3 times.

You had rated it, but then took it off to "go cause problems in the other thread" (your words) lol
It started at 3.5 for me, got the .5 bump after I fully digested it, but then back down to the 3.5 because it doesn't have me coming back as much as I expected, like you mentioned.
Ultimately it will probably get the bump to 4.0 again, mostly because I have YFW at 3.5 and it's certainly better than that album. Or I'll just get off my nostalgia/sad boi trip and 3.0 YFW. Whatever.

when it's good, but barely anything stuck in your ears.

Album Rating: 5.0
you know, this was stuck in my head after a single listen. While I listened I thought it was pretty dull, but it's as much of a 'grower' as I've ever heard.
but to be honest, if this wasn't brand new, I would have not given it as many chances as I did. same for daisy, which I ended up deciding wasn't for me. Good album, but nothing special like TDAG and to lesser degree Deja

I feel like Jesse realized with this record that he might not be the greatest conscious or profound lyricist ever, something which totally bogged down daisy, and instead took a fun more anthemic approach with the lyrics and it really pays off I feel in lots of places. Lots of totally glowing moments on every song on this album for real

You're so wrong

I find that the best albums are often albums that do anything but try to be the best. This one avoids all "I'm gonna be the best" tendencies and just simply is, and it is so much better as a result

Album is definitely not trying too hard to be the best [2]

lyrics on daisy are just immemorable to me. a lot of empty/cheesy metaphors it seems. idk I've listened to Daisy the least for sure, so I'm not the best source. And doof you can be a real contrarian sometime lol. this album is way too professional to be anything under 3 fr
my highlights...
Lit me up: just the over all synth vibe of the song, also highlight the lyrics "WHEN I GROW UP I WANNA BE A HERETIC"
Can't get it out: the way the background voice near the end of the song is "I'm just manic depreeeeeeSSSIIIILVE"
Waste: youarenotaloneyouarenotaloneyouarenotalone
Never be Heaven: the subtle build up of the music is amazing, and how it comes comes together in the "swimming circles in the church" part is really fucking good. Plus I find the lyrics very spiritual
Same Logic: that trumpet, that synth, everything about the Teeth portion
137: ending guitar solo is really fucking professional and building. also there's the sound bites (if it wasn't for the war this place would be really nice) and helicopter noises which truly add to the vibe
Out of Mana: this song just goes hard as fuck, epitome of the Brand new banger sound
In the Water: to me this song doesn't really stand out anywhere, instead it's just chock full of incredible instrumentation, but I like the waling when he's saying "HIDE UR DAUGHTEEEERS"
Desert: tropical guitar is AMAZING, bongos and tomtoms are AMAZING, lyrics are incredibly relevant yet speak of backwards beliefs, this is becoming a favorite song of mine
No Control: just a fun song here nothing truly special. fun to sing with though, and trying to match up your shout with the HEY in the background of the second verse is randomly hella fun
451: another real fucking banger, again all the instrumentals are hella professional AND banging (especially those roman-slave-boat-like drums) and I LOVE how the maracca(?) drives the chorus
Batter Up: This is a good song to just zone out too. The "Turning up your gravity" line is amazing. I also get a soft-Genesis vibe from this song in certain places
TLDR: I like this album a lot
