I can see both sides. The last 3 songs are almost miserably boring but up until that it’s pretty amazing. I bumped my score down a bit. My first listen was incredible but second and third haven’t been as impressive and it’s because of the last 3 tracks.

Skylark and Doof 2.5? It's looking more and more like this may not be worth my time.

Worst songs are easily The Sunshine and and The Mistake. I don't mind last three

"your unwavering defense of this album is truly inspiring"

I'm actually exposing weak arguments that one could say about any record. Regarding negative feedback about it, of course.

Sorry, Faraudo, but I really do feel like this needs some punch. Not a lot sticks out. Almost all of the vocals feel repressed. I think that's a fair critique.

Yeah this was definitely less interesting listening to it again, the songs really don't hold up that well after repeated listens

I literally bumped Cope to a 2.5 because this is a 3 for me and is easily better than Cope. I was going to jam this again tonight and jammed everything else instead. I want it to pull me back in. But, it isn't.

Yeah, thinking about it, it's probably a matter of personal taste/opinion; I think they aimed towards a total opposite direction than Cope, because well, monotonous or not; that thing has plenty of punch (intentionally of course). And you know, probably even they thought that Cope was kinda weak. For me, this record's punch lies within the lyrics/ethereal soundscapes. But that's just my opinion. It is a fair critique.

Vocals towards the end of The Grocery are far from repressed

yeah...I don't insta 5 hardly any albums, but this one is really tempting me. I think I'll stick to a 4.5, but damn it's close already. This album is just phenomenal. The whole feel and atmosphere just completely engulf you. Combine that with the lyrics, and this is really fighting for aoty right now.

RE: punch, definitely wasn't dropping that to insinuate every album needs punch. My taste has grown away from that personally, but it's what they've brought in their past efforts, so I meant to say I can see past fans/listeners missing that in this album and rating it lower. It's very different if nothing else, which can be respected at the very least. I see it as a solid addition to their discog

Gave this a listen... It's incredibly meh. It's all competently done but I couldn't get behind the really generic commercial indie sound and vocals. They're trying too hard to be emotional with the soft, way too echoey production and occasionally "epic" songwriting. It's pretty and totally inoffensive but not quite boring though so I'll give it that. The Alien is a great song but that's about it.

the vocals on here are way to twangy and indie-ish for me

but goddamn is the moth a good track!

This might have already been mentioned, but holy shit the track run of The Alien, The Sunshine, and The Grocery is just bone-chillingly sublime. Spine tingles for 8 minutes straight

I can't stop listening to those three. And the final minute of the grocery, plus the hard hitting lyrics make me catatonic for at least a minute afterward
