"Maybe you're too old/out of touch with this record's intended audience. Just a thought". Maybe you're too young and inexperienced to recognise generic pop.

maybe im a bit of a pop nerd and im here to clear the air and say this is not generic 2017 pop
the only way its generic is if you consider its place within the maintstream
take it out, most of the rests sounds way more watered down and plastic

I said generic pop, not generic 2017 pop.

i feel she would fit more in with the pop of the 80s

Ya. Although making the comparison can be Obnoxious, there is Kate Bush in here.

"the 'next Kate Bush' comparisons"
Not saying she'll necessarily get to that level, but you can't honestly listen to this and not hear the influence

idk how you can listen to Witness or any given pop record this year and say it's no different than this. But I'm guessing those people are the same people who think Ulver has pop AOTY

This is different but stuff like Green Light, Homemade Dynamite or Supercunt are pretty standard pop songs - and the best things here

agreeing with Doof is like waiting for Halley's Comet, probably a once in a lifetime deal but it's a beautiful moment 💫

Oh wise guru of popular music, do explain what "generic" pop is and how this album falls into that category

a 2 year old could identity what generic pop is. it's not like it's exclusive to a culture. it's ubiquitous, i don't understand how anyone could be too young to identify it

I do feel like it got a little too hyped, still a really nice sophomore effort for Lorde. at the moment I feel like some of the tracks (especially the interludes and the second part or "Hard Feelings") don't hold up well after multiple listens and are actually quite weak.. and while the first four tracks set the level pretty high, the second half kinda lacks a strong track except Supercut (tho my fave part of it is the long outro); Perfect Places is lyrically good, but sonically a bit of a weaker copy of "Team". still I pretty much love Lorde, hoping she might carry on Björk's torch.

What are people reading into this album? Bjork? When did Bjork release a chart music pop album? Swimming in totally different waters :/
