How have I never listened to this. This is easily topping Powerslave for me so far

This has about topped Powerslave for me at this point. Both still 4.5's though.

Yeah on first listen the middle four tracks on Powerslave aren't nearly as good as this

Powerslave still does take a couple of more listens than this to get most out of said middle tracks, in my experience. This is a bit more accessible from the get go I think.

Maybe that's it, but I've listened to Powerslave dozens of times and while the middle has improved markedly for me, it's still a noticeable dip in quality. I'm loving this from the first listen but I've noticed it's albums like that which don't have much lasting power.



Rime > all this album though

I get what you mean. While Powerslave is solid, I too think the middle dips a little in context with the double bookends. For this, I thought it grew off me bit over time but proved wrong when revisiting it after a while. Yep, Rime is all kinds of awesome.
