My best friend is European and actually disagrees with me on this. Even though her parents have been shitheads, she still feels that family is family no matter what and I just don't understand that mentality whatsoever. Like, I love my Mom to death because she's always had my back no matter what. My dad on the other hand has been kinda sketchy until later years (aka when I got my own place), I'm always gonna love the guy but if he ditches me then I'm not gonna crawl to him trying to repair it.
