alright since everybody wants maturity from me:
Chester Bennington's writing abilities reflects the one of a sullen 13-year-old boiling over with angst and a plethora of free range shits and fucks. With piss poor lyricism & graining croons splattered over a watery mix of electronics & droning alternative metal instrumentals, Hybrid Theory shat out angsty music that seemed timeless to the ears of middle schoolers worldwide. The only thing that mattered to them was music that kept them distant from their environment. However, as that generation aged, it became hard to find any substance in the music whatsoever. The music ranged from being opaque nostalgia to flat out cringeworthy. Sadly, Hybrid Theory is their most critically acclaimed offering from their old fans, as Bennington & Co. went on to release five new albums within 14 years of their debut release. Meteora, their follow-up record, was a carbon copy of HT that saw them approaching more towards the alternative rock spectrum, and their most recent release was a comeback that saw Linkin Park throwing their old style at the wall once again but their matured fans only saw it as a moment of remembrance.
What about blink-182? Yes, their music is undoubtably more immature than anything Linkin Park has written, but the style of music that blink created was something that their fans could resonate with for a longer period of time. Their music is less pessimistic than LP, and not optimistic to the point where they were releasing cheesy sunscreen albums, therefore their music could live in the fans' hearts for ages. Of course, I'm not speaking on behalf of all that have liked blink at least once in their lives, but for the ones that can look back and remember all of the enjoyment that was created when listening to their music (or gets amused at their more comical material).
