maybe it'll get the ol Sounds bump cuz some of Chino's best performances are here

Album Rating: 4.5 | Sound Off
When Girls Telephone Boys is fucking heavy.

the keys should've been way louder on that song though

Yeah this album has great songs it just has that slightly unfocused feel imo that lowers it below their best stuff.

I love how they just went all in on a certain sound for this album

that's exactly what they didn't do tho

"the keys should've been way louder on that song though"
I feel this way about a lot of their songs. I know the point of them is to add atmosphere and all that bs but there are times when they are actually playing a melody and I would like to hear it a bit better. Just a little bit.

| |
atmosphere/vision-wise I love this album but i feel like in terms of execution they shat the bed something fierce

"idk I feel like they did, it's always felt more melancholy and darker to me than some of their other records."
I guess, it just seems the most compilation-ish of all their records post-adrenaline. I personally like it but Gmember's comment seemed more appropriate for an album like Koi or SNW, imo

Moana especially feels all over the place.
Lucky You is a jam though I don't care what anybody says.

"idk I feel like they did, it's always felt more melancholy and darker to me than some of their other records."
this is exactly what i mean. It's such a heavy record and even the softer tracks have such a dark tone.
Moana, the sequencing, and lack of the keys being higher in the mix are the only weak aspects of this record for me

I think their main mistake was leaving "Lovers" off, really
I mean it fit the record, it's not like the album would have been overlong or anything, and they didn't even put it on that b-sides comp
but whatev, at least it's out there

also for all my talk of sequencing in certain other threads recently, I actually like it on this and don't think I would change it

Album Rating: 4.5
Yeah, I would of much rather seen "Lovers" on the album than Moana, and just have "Anniversary" as the closer instead

my issues with the sequencing is very minor
I just think the closer is so weak... and that Battle-Axe could of been placed a little earlier

"Yeah, I would of much rather seen 'Lovers' on the album than Moana, and just have 'Anniversary' as the closer instead"
that'd probably be pretty great, I'd have to listen to it like that to tell how good of a follow-up it'd be to Bloody Cape, but I can already tell Anni coming after it would be pretty awesome
also I'd still keep Moana
|

Moana is like a composite track of unused riffs and vocal hooks randomly spliced together
|
| |
Or sections I should say , i actually don't mind it but it feels pretty haphazard
