That tour is gonna suck. He can't perform half the fucking songs and Jeph sucks. I always liked him as a front man but he killed his voice and it's time to check in. Their first album is in my personal top 10 and I hate when bands perform old songs without any of the character that made that album so great.

part of why i wave the canyon flag is its more consistent than in love and death yeah that album eventually just runs too many ballads near each other

real heads know their 2nd best is shallow believer though. unfathomable they left those songs off liars, they decimate the main album

True. And I can listen to Choke Me without having to skip through Bert laughing maniacally with his birthday stripper at the end of Pieces Mended.

Crazy part is, he WAS a total basket case back then, but it came out so heartfelt in the music. I only half assed skipped through The Canyon and while there are alot of fans of it here, there was nothing about it that particularly grabbed me.

Used to watch the take it away music video all the time on fuse lmao, prolly the first used song I ever heard. But yeah, tour will prob suck ass. Bert just can't sing lol. I saw them live once and it was pretty awful even though I love them. Also yeah, have never gotten the canyon love. Every time I listen, I dislike the vocal production and vocal melodies too much.

I should have given Quinn his respect here too. His guitar work on this album is phenomenal. He was really good on In Love and Death as well as Artwork too. Their first album was just such an absolute moment in music where 4 guys came together and were 100% in lock step with their vision for a record. I think what makes it for me is the shear heart and emotion they poured into it. That never ages.

Also I'm listening to parts of Medz and holy fuck.... Who is this for? They've done so much harm to their legacy as a band over the last decade plus. They need to stop.

Absolutely but sometimes I'm just ready for the throat shredding screams.

People sleep on how good of a bassist Jeph is. Dude wrote some TASTY basslines on this album.

@Onion I am out here waving that Canyon flag right alongside you. Unbelievably unappreciated album by their fanbase and the band themselves. They have barely scraped the surface of playing any of it at shows.

Yeah, it always suck to see when bands and artists have grown tired of performing old material. In some ways i can understand how one can become disillusioned by people not embracing their new music and always demanding the old songs and in Berts case too i imagine he just goes on autopilot which is a shame. Also not good that his voice live has gotten bad. But i guess in this genre of music it is very common for vocalists to destroy their voice

I still pop for Sound Effects and Overdramatics. Goes ridiculously hard. And lunacy fringe rules and I'll fight anyone who disagrees. I can leave the rest.

Harsh vocals in music isn't some unknown science anymore. Hasn't been for years. And you can get it back, to an extent, if you want it. If Bert wanted it, he could have started training his voice long ago, and it would have gone a long way towards their perception these days. But he doesn't, and never will, and that's why they'll always be a flash in the pan - albeit a monster of a flash.

What I'd give to see Bert screaming Sound Effects live instead of Jeph.

I saw them twice on Taste of Chaos, once in STL and once in Kansas City. In STL his shrieks in that song were the loudest thing I've ever heard. In Kansas City Sean Ingram come out to do the song with him, and I consider myself very lucky to have seen that.
