Saying drums don’t have the same inherent melodic properties as say a piano is something I’m fine with. It’s not really worth pointing out to disparage drums or suggest they don’t bring as much to the table, though. Remove the drums from most tracks that have them and the song falls apart. The whole reason a song like The Lotus Eater by Opeth is so damn good is because of the drums
