One of my scene-girl friends was a diehard fan of Kerrang magazine, and put up all the posters on her wall. There was legit not a single piece of painted wall left, just posters upon posters of Evanescense, MCR, Fall Out Boy, Kurt Cobain, Slipknot, Paramore, etc.

I had a big-ass poster of the album cover to Green Day's "Bullet in a Bible" album a number of years ago. Also had a big-ass Michael Jackson circa late-80s poster on my wall after he died. The latter was taken down first because parents found it creepy.

I had a stint with rock sound until they lost the plot and went all post hardcore/metalcore.
It wont let me link it but check out the new issue of rock sound. You'll laugh hard at the covers.

When I was watching Scuzz, they had this list that was basically the top 20 metal songs ever.
I just about died when #1 was revealed to be Linkin Park - One Step Closer

I suppose you could argue with how prominent the internet is now (youtube), these music channels need to play the more popular stuff to stay afloat. It's sad, but I think that's the bitter truth

Yes it's sad how things have changed. It feels like ever since the start of the 2010's things have only gotten worse.

A lot of it probably has a lot to do with the general mainstream rejection of anything metal. The last time a metal song even remotely charted was when that guy got a bunch of people to download "Killing in the Name" about five years ago.
